Default My cars VIN is unknown for the Decoder tool ?

Does the VIN decoder not work for certain cars ?
My 2003 XKR has a 17 digit VIN, but it begins with a letter not a digit.
Cars import from, and originaly sold in Japan.

Cheers
Carsten

Many decoders you'll find on the internet will decipher only USA/North American VINs....which follow a different convention than ROW( rest of world) VINs

They do.
With the demise of the ETIS lookup I haven't found anything close either. There's a site that claims to decode Tata Jaguar VINs but it only gets the manufacturer correct.

There's a Heritage doc. that gives some information, but nothing you won't likely already know.

Jaguar assigned 'unusual' VIN's to Japanese market vehicles and I've never found them documented.

Well. I have been able to make most of the 17 digits make sense after this. But as michaelh says, - it has not added any new knowledge about the car.
A least VIN and car match beautiful

I expect you would have to.

I wanted my car's data before TOPIx is how it is now and my dealer printed it out free. Tried asking a dealer? Or contacting Jaguar (dealers are only franchises)? Many people got the info that way.

I am trying to find out the same thing about my car. It is a USA market 1998 XK8 coupe VIN SAJGX5240WC026940 but TOPIX, Ford ETIS and even Cambo's look-up have come up with "VIN not found". I cross checked the ID plate to ensure I had not transcribed the number incorrectly and the Dealer was able to cross reference that number with the engine number to confirm I still have the original engine.

On the decode pages on this thread https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/g...ecoding-49929/ it looks like there could be a different way of coding the car with 2 "J"s, ie. SAJJGXED4WC026940, but that does not work either.

Any thoughts?

Andy

Andy,
This one does, but won't tell you anything you don't know:
https://www.vindecoderz.com/EN/Jaguar/XK8

My 98 starts SAJJGAED but it is European RHD.
There's some info on the Heritage site, but that doesn't quite tally with what you have either.
http://www.jaguarheritage.com/Conten...%20Numbers.pdf

Can't the dealer oblige with the original build sheet? He obviously can identify your car..

Comes up OK on
https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/v...inDecoderFarea
https://www.decodethis.com/vin/SAJGX5240WC026940
and as posted
https://www.vindecoderz.com/EN/check...GX5240WC026940

so it appears an OK VIN.

Dealers can indeed probably get you the build info or you can try emailing Jag corp support.
