Default Mystery Bolt AFter Steering Pump Swap

Lads,

I am quite embarrassed to even make this post.
For those that have swapped out their power steering pumps, you know that the 4 four bolt removal is basically by feel.
That "by feel" approach saw me taking out a bolt that was not necessary. I felt that it was no big deal as i would simply reinsert it from wherever it had come from after I got the pump off but to my dismay, I could not find the hole that it had come out of.
No really - the hole has vanished from the face of the earth.
I have now spent hours trying to locate the hole to no avail. I tried feeling around for it, shining light in there and looking from underneath the car, used a mirror and my iphone to try and locate it and i even reinstalled the pump to try and trigger a feel memory of where it had come from and nothing has solved the mystery. My car is a 2003 and the pump is different from earlier cars as it simply uses 4 bolts that go into a mounting bracket that is shared with the belt tensioner. I have even removed that bracket to help the visibility and I still do not see where the bolt came from. Since it is now raining and preventing me from doing anything further, I thought I would take this extreme long shot and see if anyone has encountered this bolt or if you have a 2003, 4.2L manual, help me locate where this has come from. I would be eternally grateful as I need the car up and running asap.
To be stumped by something so simple really is an embarassment but when you have completely run out of ideas, it is time to reach out for some technical assistance.

The pics shsow the 4 bolts that hold the pump on - on the left and the mystery bolt is on the right.
It is 122mm long and it is M8
The bolt has a long unthreaded shaft so it is passing through deeply into something and since the shaft is prestine, it is defintely buried into something.
Much nicer condition than any of the bolts that actually secured the pump to the bracket.

Ok, let's see if there is an epiphany in all of this.

I wonder...
Could it be one of the compressor bolts? Appreciate they're on the side rather than the front, but it does look like it could be, and the EPC gives the size of the longer as 120mm M8.

Getting the compressor out and back is burnt into my memory as the PS pump is a perfectly-placed obstruction

Thanks for helping out here.

The bolts for the AC compressor are horizontally located while the power steering pump bolts are oriented to the V of the cylinder bank or 45 degrees or thereabouts.
When I pulled that bolt, I was reaching around the back of the PS pump and couldn't see the bolt but I remember that it was also oriented at that same 45 degree angle.
Another think is that my ratcheting wrench is about 5" long and there was enough wrench protuding past the pulley to allow me to crack and undo the bolt.
Can you link me to this catalog so that I can do some investigation as well? Not familiar with EPC but I suspect the answer is in there somewhere.
The bolt in question is 122mm long but it has a pointed tip which may or may not factor into the overall specification for the bolt length?

Again, thanks for jumping in and I would rather now research this online over fumbling around in the dark trying to find the hole

Hi - it was a long shot.

The EPC used to be available in the stickies via a link from androulakis, but that's now dead, I'm afraid. I have the installer, but it's too big to post here (264Mb).
Worse still, Microsoft in their infinite wisdom decided to forcibly uninstall Flash player with one of their 'updates', so all the EPC pics disappeared.

I've had another look round the EPC but I haven't come across any other fixings that use a bolt that length. I'm sure someone with a 4.2 will chime in.

Good luck .

I would cheerfully host the EPC in google drive and add to the stickies; as for the flash player bit, I can trivially solve that with either windows sandbox (I have one set up for admin of some older cctv cameras I have) or the virtual machine I set up for JTIS and could integrate it with that image so its a one-stop vm shop for all your late-90s jaguar computing needs. Will DM you.

@michaelh your messages are full so I can't DM you anymore. I've sent a OneDrive link to your email Hotmail

Oops
Ahem, I've done some housekeeping...

The second link worked fine. Hopefully you can see the EPC and Flash installers now.

Thanks again,
Mike
