Default Need to identify options by VIN

I am looking at a car and was curious as to what options it has. I have the vin. The closest dealer is 6 hrs away so I can not go ask them for a build sheet. I have tried topix but it did not take my vin. Here are the last 8 digits
XC033873 it is a 1999 xk8 thanks for looking and help if posisible.

Welcome to the forum Ed,

A.f.a.i.k. you will only get the factory build sheet if you have title to the vehicle. This certainly applies in the UK but may be different in the US.

What's the problem with asking the vendor what options it has? After all, a thirteen year old Jaguar could well have had several changes from the original factory fitted options.

Default From What I Can Tell From A Partial VIN

You have a '99 model year car (the X) built at Brown's Lane assembly plant (the C).

Your serial number, 033873, says it is the 2571st '99 to be built (or something like that) as the '99 MY starts with 31303.

You can find more information on the VIN coding by getting the microfiche for the vehicle at XK8 Parts 1.pdf, pages 4 and 5.

You'll find even more nice information on this forum at: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...ts-data-29800/

A couple of years ago I previously posted a more comprehensive link on this forum regarding interpretation of the VIN but I wasn't able to find it.

I know this is an old post, 2012, but I have the same problem. The car I wish to look at is some 140 miles away and the dealer is a little vauge. On the ad it looks like beige interior but he says its cream. Ok it could be just the photos but I dont want to have to spend 4 hours traveling to find its really beige. Been there dont like beige, had it on my BMW, but would love cream. Had that colour on a previous BMW. On a beemer you can just type the vin into a website and it comes up with the original factory spec as it left the factory. Would be so handy to have that for the Jags. I did find http://www.jagrepair.com/images/Auto...sb_09_2003.pdf on here but nothing that links me to the origianl factory specs. Any updates or further ideas? Thanks

Ask him for the 3-letter Trim Code off the label on the passenger door pillar.

Need to identify options by VIN-manufacturer-sticker-uk-edited.jpg

Post it back here for a decode of the colour.

In another forum for another car I own (similar production quantities), an Excel spreadsheet was obtained from the factory that listed every serial number produced and every variable equipment component and option for every car produced. That included paint, interior and convertible top colors.

That car is only 7 years newer than the '99 XK8, so it is not a question of technology. Has anyone ever attempted to obtain such data from the facory?

I got a sort of short version of that (from a "dealer" - they're franchises) but I don't see why they'd provide it to anyone but the owner.

Thanks for the replies guys. I posted the same question on the UK version of this forum and had some good replies (not saying these are not good replies too) and apparently you can email the factory and they will supply with details. The same point was made about the colour codes on the B pillar too.
Sorted.
Thanks again

Ok. The vin decoder did not work. The VIN seems to be ok. Its on the log book , the car and the VOSA MOT site.
This is where I checked it :-

VIN Decoder - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum

However I will take you up on the colour code check, pm sent.

It says, and I am quoting from the label on the door

PAINT JHV TRIM NED HT

Can someone throw light on the specs? Is there another UK vin checker?
Perhaps on a spares site?

Thanks by the way. All these replies on the forum have been very informative and useful.

OK. Found a site that actually works.

JaguarSport XJR - XJ40 VIN Decoder

There was another site I found but I expected more from the vin so I dismissed it. Several attempts later I found the one above.

Hope this helps someone.

Odds are, the person who posted the link is a partner in the for-pay service.

It was free - but worse than useless.

The "online" version of the Jaguar Electronic Parts Catalogue (JEPC) has a VIN lookup function where you can see the build spec of the vehicle from it's VIN.

Jaguar dealerships have this, if you are friendly with the spare parts department they can look it up for you.

regards,
I am slightly worried about this link. Is it a scam to extract our Vin numbers from us? Tried it on two cars. Got NONE of the details right, except of course the fact it was a Jag. Wrong year, model, everything.....

It might be programmed to read only USA/North American VINs. If you have something else (I don't know where 'Malvern' is) is won't work right....as the format differs.

Cheers

Doug,

Malvern is a spa town in Worcestershire, England and the home of Morgan Motor Company. Now 105 years old and the last remaining family owned, independent British motor manufacturer.
