I wouldn't worry about the engine tuck. In 2006 (conservatively) the dealer would have had the new timing chain tensioner issues well in hand and if the engine is a new build (not just a drop-in from a previous 4.0) then it should be ok. Maybe a jag mechanic can give you a little more assurance.

Test out the transmission really well. A small lurch is expected. Those earlier 5-speed transmissions do have a little less longevity than the 6-speeds and I've read where higher mileage transmissions have given up.

in my 97 xk8 my tensioner on pass side went out at 72k miles. My repair was done at a cost of 3500 bucks. That included new water pump, plugs, to name a few extra's.

They're gonna fail, it's just a matter of time. i would definitely do the tensioners and consider it part of the purchase price. If they fail and break apart into little pieces it'll cause more damage further in and cost more than just replacing them.

WOW Tuckahoe, that's like jumping out of the frying pan into the fire!! I have a neighbor that has a Benz S500 that has been in the shop more than my 2 Jags combined!!
