Default Need a spare ignition key what options do have?

My new (to me) 2001 XKR came with only 1 key. I would like a spare but the dealer wants $201 for the key and another $125 to program it. That just sounds rediculous to me.

Are there any other options?

I have autoenginuity, but not the jag package (yet). The description of the jaguar package says it does key programming, has onyone tried this on a 2001?

Well, if you search other posts here, I think you'll find the dealer is unfortunately your best bet. First, you'd have to find an OEM key for sale that's uncut, which I've never seen. There are look-alike clones on eBay for about $15 but they cannot be programmed to start the car. Then you'd have to get it cut and programmed. Getting it cut isn't hard (can get the code from your VIN to cut it correctly). But for the programming, you would need a dealer or someone with IDS to do that.

Default Certified Automotive Locksmith (CAL)

Hello, I believe that if you look in phonebook under locksmith or google it, look for a Associated Locksmiths of America certified locksmith, that has achieved the following certifications:
Certified Registered Locksmith (CRL)
Certified Automotive Locksmith (CAL)

A CAL locksmith should be able to cut and program a key.

As Always
Happy Mortoring...

or send a photo of the shaft

I have AutoEnginuity with the Jaguar Expansion Pack. Unless it has been changed in the two years since I purchased mine, it will not program keys.

A note for UK owners. Jaguar Dealers here no longer cut keys. They order them ready cut against the VIN from Jaguar and they are delivered overnight. The key still requires programming on the SDD.

You can buy blank keys from Jaguar, you just need to know the part number They are in the JEPC.

Get it cut by a local locksmith using your original key as a master & they should be able to clone the chip.

EDIT

I know of one Jaguar reseller in the UK who can supply uncut keys, but it might not be so easy to get them in the US.
