Default Need transmission flashed

Does a non-functioning adaptive speed control system block the ability to reflash the transmission? If so, can I disable and remove this "convenience" item?

Have I under described my problem or just need to wait for the correct person to see this?
A 3000$ repair has been suggested to the adaptive control system in order to reprogram my tranny. See my dilemma? Really need advice.

I think that most members, like me, don't have a clue. Have you taken it to Enzo's for an estimate? They have been Jag experts for many years.

Thanks RJ. They are not terribly convenient to Norcross but it's great to have a solid recommendation for their shop.

I've used them and have sent others there. Very knowledgeable and the prices are reasonable.

I suspect almost no-one will know and the chance they read the thread is roughly zero.

Are you having any issues other than just the non-functional ASC?
Who gave this advice, and how did they arrive at that conclusion?

Happy to be corrected here, but I can see no reason why that should be the case.
The diagnostic software (WDS or whatever) communicates over the CAN with the TCM for firmware updating, and presumably also for adaptation resets.

The ASC and the TCM are connected to the same network, but they don't talk directly to each other as far as I can see. If the ASC was causing problems with that network I'd expect other issues to be apparent.

Just my 2c

Mike

As with others, I am afraid I haven't a clue. As far as the adaptive cruise control, I would think twice before removing it; personally I find acc a real bonus, especially in moderate to fast traffic with frequent speed changes. And I believe that a working acc would be another tick should you sell the Jag.

Thanks guys for the responses. Had great recommendations for this indie shop whose specialties are Rovers and Jags. Had great confidence until now. I'll be following up with them and let you know what is said.

Let me ask the other question: what makes you think you need your TCM reflashed?

Several people have reported before that shops are usually reluctant to reflash a module when other problems are present. I suppose it comes from experience with that one car they reflashed and ended up rendering inoperable, at great expense and aggravation. Reflashing is replacing the software on the module. I suppose this is the same as a computer BIOS, or a phone: if it dies in the middle of the update, you could make the computer inoperable as there no longer is any software running on it, including the ability to accept another image.

I suppose I am asking why you think a reflash is necessary. Have the other avenues been exhausted (fluid, adaptations, etc.)?
