Default Needed - Lug nut cover extractor or Wheel stem cover extractor

Needed - Lug nut cover extractor or Wheel stem cover extractor or how to the chrome lug nut covers off to get the wheel off.

Hi Everyone. When I bought the car I did not check the road side kit. It is missing some features. One is the lug nut cover remover. I need one bad. Can not do any work this weekend without it.

Local Parts store do not stock any or the people do not know what part is.

Anyone know in the DFW area where I can get one today 3/11/2011?

Thanks in Advance.
James

Assuming you have factory wheels and lugs, just remove the lug nuts with a 22mm 6 point socket...there is no need to' extract' the chrome covers. The proper size socket will not damage them.

I may be wrong, but I think he means the steel cap that covers the anti-theft bolt on each wheel. The tool is a black plastic tube about 10cm long and 2cm diameter. It is normally in the toolkit in the boot (trunk).

This is correct. I am missing this and some other pieces.

I just need to find a junkyard that has an XJ or XK with the roadside kits stocked.

I do not want to pay retail on this.

WhiteXKR, this did work. I had to go to the parts store and buy a breaking tool and the 22mm tools.

Thanks!

I disliked those chrome covers so badly, I replaced them..makes a nice rattle over cracks and bumps at slow speeds...embarassing, though I know it was the covers, but nobody else does, they probably thought I had loose suspension parts!

BTW, I have a full (20-pc) set of one-piece replacement lugs (White Knight), no cap, that I have in a box, only on the car for about 3 weeks IIRC, before a member here fabricated me some fancy stainless ones. The white knight lugs were a special order that took 2 months to receive. Will take a 50 greenback if you want them.
