Default Found the problem we have a solution

After looking over the tank it seem that the tank was replaced with a XK8 tank and it was modified to work. They used silicone to put the wires back together. The tank has silicone all in the bottom and the Evaporator Loss Flange check ***** are stuck inside. So I needed to track down a used tank. Well the one wrecking yard wanted $700 for all the stuff I feel I needed. My local British shop said they have a 2001 XKR in the same color combo with a bad Tranny and they would sell it to me $1000, I wanted to pay $500 so you guessed it, I got the whole car for $750. The paint and interior is bad shape but I don't care. I'm gong to take off what I need and and scrape the rest. So if anyone is looking for something let me know, I'm not looking to get rich but to cover my time and shipping would be great. I will keep you posted on how it goes.

Fascinating, please let us know if it cures the EVAP or other problems. Good luck with it.

I picked up my donor car on Friday and as I'm looking at it I realized that I owned this car about four years ago. The lady I sold the car to abandon it British Sports cars and they did a lien sale. This poor car was completely trashed by the former owner. Very sad. It's too sad to post a photo of it. It started and but has a bad tranny. I posted a market place listing if anyone is looking for parts. The gas tank and Evaporator Loss Valve seem to be in working order, a long with all the wiring to the fuel pumps. Wish me luck.

Well, I'm almost there. The donor car has helped me fix most of my problems. After I got the used gas tank and new fuel pumps it didn't fix the problem of the evap code of P0445. However I can get a full tank of gas now. So I remove the Evap from the donor car and put it in. The donor Evap was an old school and guess what? My Evap monitor has cleared. The car runs great and I'm waiting for the Comprehensive Component monitor to clear and it is being very stubborn my last one that I need to smog in California. If anyone has an idea how to make this happen that would be great.

Comprehensive Component

Fantastic! So likely a bad EVAP valve? On the plus side, if the 'new' old one ever goes, it is likely that a new new one would work too.

For comprehensive component, it's not clear to me what this is. Although it is listed in the 2003 DTC manual, it also says "To avoid unnecessary complexity, a single comprehensive engine management drive cycle has not been developed for the XK. Refer to the individual DTC for specific drive cycle / monitoring conditions." It's listed in earlier DTC guides but is unspecified.

So, time.

It's smogged and insured, what a relief. On to the font end issues and there are many.

Default Another X100 back on the road

Perfect photo,

Well done and thanks for such a good thread. Love the photo of all the Ford mechanics peering under the car.

Your persistence saved the car and I wish you happy motoring.

Here, in the Rest of the World, our car specs are different and we don’t have your pesky USA enviro Smog tests. On my 99MY XK8, there’s no EGR or O2 sensors.

Always a sense of relief to successfully pass the mandatory inspection process with these aging vehicles. Well done....
