No Power to CD Changer on '98 XK8
No power to CD Changer in the trunk but have power at the radio/cassette. Owner's manual does not indicate a seprate fuse for teh CD changer. Thoughts?
Has it ever worked since you had the car? I see you only have 2 posts so if you are a new owner, I would check to ensure the cables are plugged into the cd changer and/or the back of the head unit - previous owner may have disconnected for some reason
do you have the premium audio with power amp? Radio fuses are in the passenger side fuse box (#9 is 10A; #12 is 5A) Then if you have the power amp - it is in the trunk fuse box #18 and 30 A. I would check all those as well as connections to the cd changer
Thanks for the reply. You are correcct the vehicle is new to me. The CD changer has never worked in my posssession. I have determined that the changer in the trunk doesn't have power. It did work once upon a time with the previous owner as there were CDs in the disc cartridge. I was able to access the changer and check the connections. It was connected to teh main cable. I had to manually release the disc cartridge since there wasn't any power. I have checked multiple fuses but nothing seems to be an issue there. I have not checked anything with the radio/cassette unit in the dash as it seems to all be working correctly. It is original equipment. Maybe the CD changer is kaput but since there isn't any power, I can't determine that.
How do you know there is no power to the CD changer? Where did you test? If you checked the cable at the CD player end and there is no power there, then its either the cable, or it is unplugged at the head unit end.
Well, since the cartridge won't eject and the CD changer unit doesn't attempt to engage in any way, it appears that there isn't any power. The coax cable is connected at the CD changer end. I haven't checked the head unit end so I'll have to check that. I haven't attempted any type of electrical test.
You need to check with a multimeter or test light at the CD player end of the cable to see if there is in fact power and ground there. If there is, then you likely have a dead CD player. No power at the cable suggests a fault at the radio end, but the likeliest is a dead CD player.
