noise in cockpit--beep-chirp--warning?
Hello all:
I am using a friend's 2005 XK8 convertible. Beautiful car. He loaned us the car so we could drive it on vacation to the mountains of NW AR.
He had asked if I had a can of WD-40, because he thought it had a squeak in the roof.
Upon driving it, and opening the roof, I saw no shiny areas where something was rubbing/squeaking.
Nonetheless, I put some grease on the pins and the locking mechanism. No change.
After driving it for a while, I noticed a few things.
One, the noise appears somewhat speed-sensitive--does not seem to make the noise until 50 mph on up.
Two, the noise did not appear to relate to bumps per se...some bumps produced no chirp, some did.
Three, after an hour or so of driving on the freeway, the noise went away. Until the next day.
I got to thinking that the sound was perhaps an electronic beep/chirp, but being initiated randomly.
Trying to figure out where the chirp is coming from--there is a small speaker in the RH A-pillar. Might that be the culprit?
Thank you in advance for any ideas or suggestions.

Front suspension coil spring/damper top mounts are likely deteriorated and causing a 'metal-to-metal' chirp or squeak.
BOTH my XKRs developed this chirp and the noise is transmitted to the interior in the windscreen area via the bulkhead-to-wing mount braces.
The grill on the RH A pillar trim is a spacial transducer for the passive restraint system. It can interfere with hearing aids.
