Default "O" I am such a dope....

Forgot the O ring on the A/C drier, took me forever to figure out why I could not hold a vacuum.

The good news is that you will never forget to install a new O-ring again....

I’ve never had any parts leftover. Move along, nothing to see here.

I have never knocked/dropped my tray full of removed screws & fixings and I've never had to scramble to find them on the floor/in the engine bay. It's never happened to me …… Doh!

Hehe!

I'm still missing one of the coil cover screws that fell into the engine bay somewhere. Didn't hit the garage floor. I ended up just ordering a bunch of spares because I always have a terrible time getting the lower right screw in on the driver's side cover...

I hope the missing screw found it's way out eventually.

I just did an inventory of my free HF magnetic trays. Seven that I could find. My problem is before and after they are in the tray. My batting average of dropping parts through to the floor is probably less than 100.

Unhappy Oops !

Yep, drop a nut or bolt or irreplaceable part and it never hits the floor. Oh, the horror.

Still looking for the brass-colored square-shouldered bolt (one of two) that holds the radiator fan assembly in place. One goes in each upper corner. I dropped the passenger-side one while removing the assembly in July 2018 in order to pull the alternator for refurbishing and install a new serpentine belt. It never made it to the pavement underneath the vehicle. I spent at least an hour looking for it with a flashlight and a magnetic wand before giving up and going to the local hardware store to find something similar. They had nothing close so I used a brass bolt that I had in my jar of loose nuts and bolts and simulated the square shoulder with a brass washer epoxyed to the bolt. It works fine but I still wish I could find the original bolt. Maybe one day it will magically show up underneath the car....

Been there done that. Having done the equivalent of 'missing socks' in the car world I now stick an old towel below any gap to catch dropped stuff. Still got a spanner and the odd nuts, bolts, lurking on the tray beneath the engine.

I actually had an old rag underneath the area for that very reason but the damn factory bolt bounced past it as we lifted the fan assembly upwards. I had to slightly jar the assembly from side-to-side in order to clear some of the hoses and wire bundles in the area while lifting it up and that was when the factory bolt decided to escape to places unknown. But those well-placed rags have saved me several times during the past few years, I must admit....
