Oil Change on the beast-A work out with jack
Just did my first oil change on the XKR---what a work out with the hydraulic jack! I'm curious what others do when changing their own oil.
1. Do you change the pan (sump) plug on every oil change?
2. Do you jack up the rear of the car to get all the oil out of the pan?
One interesting note is that you need a large oil collection bucket to hold 8+ quarts of oil. I was used to doing oil changes on cars holding around 5 qts. I was prepared as I had a larger bucket, but when I jacked the rear up I almost crushed the bucket. Not sure I need to jack the rear next time.

Mountain cat, change oil and filter every 5K in my '98 XK8. Just lift the car enough to get the jack stands, set on the second notch, under the car. Have never changed the drained plug and it's never leaked. Thanks to NutriSystems I can get this 64 year old body under the car without too much trouble sliding on a piece of cardboard box. I get 5+ qts. out of the crankcase into my oil change pan which I drain into the 5 qt container from last change. The pan goes back under for what ever comes out of the filter. I buy 15 qts at a time and split it with my '07 X-type. Each car takes 7 qts. with the remaining for top offs if needed. Jack
