Default Oil change xk8:

The manual said 7.9 qt with filter —- after the change oil level is above the holes on the dip stick I don’t believe I have a oil cooler on this car what am I missing

How far above the top hole ? A half inch or less higher is not a problem, imho.

Also, these engine seem to take a long time for all the oil to drain into the pan for oil level
checking purposes.

My level has always been different if I wait overnight before checking the level VS just waiting 10 minutes.

Waiting a few hours after the engine is shut off before checking the oil level seems to be a good idea for accuracy sake.

Best to check the oil level first thing in the morning while the engine has sat overnight.....

Oof this can be a can of worms! Depending on your model year you might be best searching the forum for all the past confusion about changes and upgrades to the dipstick and fill level!

IIRC my 1998 has the original dipstick which means it's lying by about an inch!

But the general consensus is that overfilling is not so much of a problem because of reasons and science lol
