Oil Drain Plug Gasket
Trying to change my oil today and when I replaced the oil drain plug gasket it does not seem to fit properly. When I removed the plug there is a rubber seal that fits into a groove. I ordered a new oil drain plug gasket but it does not fit into the groove like the old rubber seal did. The new one (part # NCE 1850AB) is brass with a rubber center. It will not fit into the groove so I am reluctant to put it back on the car in case I do not get a good seal. Does anyone know if this gasket can be used at all or should I just order a brand new drain plug which includes a new rubber seal?
Dealer cost for a new drain plug will probably be $300 plus. And the o-ring gasket another $10 or so.
Don't know why you could not just use a standard O-ring in the correct size from a hardware store.

I bought a new drain plug at my dealer last year and I think it was ~$12.00. The O ring is built into the plug on an `03 XKR and it looks just like the drain plug on my `99 Ford Expedition. I`ve changed oil on my Expedition 50 times since new and I`ve never replaced the plug. I bought a new plug for the Jag because I wanted to pamper the kitty!!
