Default Oil pan gasket question

My XK8 is 10 years old and mechanic is saying I need to replace the oil pan gasket. (It's leaking).
Question: Is this normal for a 10 year Jag?.
Don't believe I've ever had to do this in the past with a non-Jag car.

Thanks

It's always possible, but uncommon. Cam cover leak is more common, but even that is not a routine issue.

Hopefully the area was thoroughly cleaned and inspected for any other possibilities such as the cam cover gasket as mentioned above.

There are other brands that have engine sump leaks quite regularly, such as the GM Northstar unit. The AJ-V6 seems more prone to this than the AJ-V8.

1. NO - it's not normal

BUT

2. if it's leaking then it doesn't matter if it's the only one in all 90,616 XK8/XKR's produced, it needs to be replaced.

i guess he was talking about the gearbox oil pan. if so, make sure that it is actually the pan gasket and the not the commonly leaking o-ring of the plug adapter of the controller harness.

Default Oil pan gasket...

I own an '03 XK8 w a 4.2L and I too see oil that appears to be coming from the oil pan gasket. I have looked for oil coming from above but nothing. I just received the new gasket and will replace the old one soon so, you may not have the only one leaking. BTW, my wife's '07 hyundai elantra had a leak at the oil pan gasket as well... it was just silicone seal but it had to be replaced.

Yep. It was the oil pan gasket. A little over $300 parts and labor.
