oil pressure switch that went bad
My oil pressure light was going to red and back to normal. This is what I found

that is to tell me that when people get this type of problem, its most likely this pressure switch thats causing it. Even if the switch dont look broken the way mine did, I could imagine that they go bad
P.s. People that dont have a rag top xk8 wish they did. hardtops are not that attractive. and why does it seem like the more you work on these cars the more you fall inlove with them

Besides the switch, another common cause is the oil sump screen getting clogged with plastic bits from broken tensioners and chain guides.

I second the oil switch thing. I actually paid $150 for the dealer's second opinion - which was A) bad switch, or b) worn rod bearings. Bought a switch for $18 from O'Reillys and replaced it myself & that fixed the problem instantly

Now I wish I hadn't wasted money at the dealer...The switches do go bad, but an oil sump clogged with plastic bits is also a reality on these engines and an inspection can give you an idea as to the condition of the plastic timing components.
