There is no bench involved. I guess it should be called "pole test"

Fails to say it's only for old-type (non-wideband) sensors.

Looks easier to use OBD II with the sensor fitted to the car!!

Wide band sensors have 5-6 wires, I don't know how to test them.
Testing sensor separately is the only way to eliminate other possible problems.

Not so on my car, for example, and by the looks of it these XKs - take a look at the electrical guides.
