Default P1647 - which sensor and location?

Hi all,

Please can someone help with my engine light in my XK8 X100 couple / September 2001?

I own an iCarsoft code reader which produces the following:

P1647
Status: Current
Heater oxygen sensor control module, bank 2 open/shorted

I have try researching this exact message, but could find anything. I understand that it's bank 2 so it's on the same side of the engine as the driver of a RHD vehicle. I don't know whether the sensor is upstream (before going into the engine) or downstream (after the engine / cats). I believe I managed to see 2 sensors so far which are at the rear of the engine (closest to the cabin) and off centre making them bank 2 sensors .. I think?

Can anyone please tell me exactly which sensor this codes refers to and where it is located? And whilst we are on the subject, which sensor I need to buy?

Many thanks

Jon

P1647 bank 2 upstream o2 sensor is under the engine coolant tank on the left hand side when sitting in the car,

Its a wideband heated sensor fitted at the top of the cat and a bit of a pain to get to (up stream sensor 1)

Thanks XKR-DAY

I thought bank two was the other side as per the image attached? Do you have a link to someone replacing this sensor?

Many thanks

AFAIK, the placement of the #1 cylinder defines the #1 bank regardless of what make, model, and etc. Your attached numbering layout is in conflict with this forums DYI Sticky for Jaguars numbering layouts. (Scroll down this attached link for proper numbering / orientation) Accordingly, bank 2 is the left side, regardless of RHD or LHD.

Note: Denso brand O2 (OEM) replacement is recommended by some members of this forum.

Thanks for clarifying

I have just bought a multi meter to investigate further before heading out and get a new sensor. Seems like it will be tricky and messy to remove the coolant to gain access.

Thanks again
