Thumbs up Part number for drivers door rubber seal? - RESOLVED

Hello All,

On my recently purchased 2001 XK8 convertible I noticed the driver's door rubber window seal - the long one on the top of the body of the door - appears to have split. Despite a search I'm not certain I have located the right part number and don't want to order the wrong one - does anyone happen to have the correct number to hand? Or does anyone have one for sale?

Thanks in advance!

Thank you for the prompt response - this is where I'm struggling. Apologies for the newbie questions, but would the long rubber seal not be no. 5 in the diagram or is that the metal piece? I've attached a picture - its the window seal behind the trim piece i'm after

Thanks again.

The metal trim piece on the outside of the glass is the Door Waist Rail. The rubber is bonded to it - not a separate part.

You will get a fright at the cost.

The Door Waist Rail is a known weakness on XK8/XKR caused by poor paint preparation by the manufacturer. Here's a thread on refurbishment:

It's surprising what can be repaired.

Thanks GGG. I've driven Land Rovers for years, so i though I was used to unreasonable prices, but as I look at that trim piece - ouch!

It would be a 100 times easier if you remove the seal from the car.

Real easy to do. Hang on and I will see if I can find a link for you.

Happy memories. I put over 120k miles on this LR Series 111 Safari:

The parts prices didn't bother me too much but I wouldn't like to fill the tank nowadays!

Very nice Landy - here's my old girl, factory 3.5 V8. She likes a drink as well....

And one of my newer 5.0 V8 LR4 from yesterday - It was not an XK8 day...

I was able to secure a used set of trim locally from a wrecked XK8 - plus front emblem to replace the damaged one on mine and sun visors - a good score!

Lucky - the front badges are becoming even harder to find than the door waist rails.

Indeed, it was a lucky catch locally from a big cat who's roaring days are over :-(
