Default Pics for rear alignment shims FIXED

After lowering the rear end I will no doubt need some camber shims. I'm wondering if there are any shims already installed, and if they show up in any of these pics. The first one is the right differential flange area, the second and third are the left side. If they're some installled, could someone point them out? If none are installed, where do they go? Thanks...

The shims go between the shaft and the flange. Normally you have to unbolt the axle from the flange to be certain if there are any installed - unless there are a lot of shims, or very thick ones, installed.

I can see what looks like a spacer or bushing in between the axle and diff flange, but a shim would be hidden from view?

The spacer that you see is the shim- you will need to remove it and replace it with a thicker shim.

The factory shims seem to be about 4mm as installed and I always keep a few 6mm shims to bring with me to the alignment shop to get the camber corrected on the XK/XJ Jags.

I seem to remember that they used to be cheaper but lately they are around $40.00 USD each.

I think 7.5mm is the MAX size issued from Jaguar but you can stack two 4mm to get 8mm or even more as long as the studs still have enough threads to keep the flange on.

Thanks, great info. Where do you get your shims from?

Gaudin has the shim for $38...Nalley will be right in the ballpark also.

Everything has been said but you will need to get a proper reading to know which way to go, $40 for a shim seems a lot but then again I make my own which probably comes to more but it does mean I can make any thickness I want.

I had a four wheel alignment in late December and the left/right rear camber before the lowering springs were installed was -1.22/-1.32 with -.50 to-1.50 as the range. I figure a 1.25 inch drop in height produces another 1.0 negative camber, and a 2.5mm shim will compensate for that. So installing a 3.5mm shim will push it another .40 degree into the green, resulting in a -.82/-.92 result.
Then I'll run it to a local Jag dealer for a free alignment check which it should pass with flying colors, unless lowering the rear threw out the front end alignment, which will then render the entire situation utterly hopeless.

Did find some shims from partsxjs.com here: Driveshaft and Half Shafts for $26 each + shipping. I thought about using a 4.0mm shim on the right side, but for some reason they were $45 along with a few others.

No matter how you slice it they're ridiculously priced for what they are.

Agreed, but I'd rather be taken for a little than taken for a lot, haha!

Hmmm, so why do I own a Jaguar? Perhaps it owns me...
