possibly from the first looks of it. The oil line can be tapped, however you need to mill away a flat surface fir the jets to fit, ensure there is enough material to make a threaded hole for the bolt, and last but not least ensure you have the right size oil pump (best a 4.2 one).

I can tell you a 4.2 oil pump will not fit into a 4.0 the bolt holes are in different places

Just 1 bolt actually, 3 will fit and should do the job.

But the oil pick up is in a totally different place and you will need to grind out some of the webbing?

Correct, but you can easily take of some material, and fit the new oil pickup.

Question oil spray

Avos,

Thank you for your reply. but i have a few more questions.

I am about to start my engine rebuild and would really like to implement this if possible. I have gotten the 4.0 engine rebuild manual from the Jag GTR at http://topix.jaguar.jlrext.com

This file gives any thing and every thing some one would need to know about how the 4.0 is built.
As i do not have a 4.2 engine laying around to examine, and i do not have the rebuild manual for the 4.2. i am some what at a loss for some of what you said, as i dont have a full understanding how the 4.2 sprayer system works. can you elaborate a bit for me?

I assumed the oil pump system would have to be updated to the 4.2 system. Higher flow/volume

And another random question, can the 4.2 forged crank be put in a 4.0? i am thinking its a maybe as the piston bore is the biggest difference as far as i can tell without solid documentation.

Thank your for your help sir. I appreciate it a grate deal.

Maybe now is also the time to reconsider to use a 4.2 block straight away, you can still get these relativly cheap and with low milages. It depends a bit on your plans though.

I can send you a picture this weekend showing the oil jets.

The 4.2 crank is stroked compared to the 4.0, and iirc the big ends are smaller in diameter, so you can't just swap it.

You can stroke the 4.0 to a 4.2, you will need the crank and conrods to do it......I know this as I have done it, the bores are identicle so no problem there.

I have rebuilt my XKR into a 4.2 and it is a nikasil engine, this is how I know about the oil pump as I have one of those too but decided this was too much hassle and kept the standard 4.0 pump

Default crank/rods

Thank you guys,

In my case, getting ahold of a good quality used engine in the states can be problematic..
and a new crank and con-rod setup for a 4.2 to stroke my 4.0 will run over $2K us.

Now to my understanding, the oil sprayer's are part of the connecting rod? or are they a block spray nozzel setup that i have read about used on some bmw engines,

thanks

What is a nice set up, maybe overkill, used mainly on race cars is called Accusump this is a device which stores pressurized oil and coats your engine when ignition on before the engine actually turns over.

The oil sprays are indeed connected to the block, and spray the cylinders from below, great cooling feature for high performance cars (and you will never have bore wash with these...)

Here is the picture:

Default sprayer

Avos,

Thank you for the picture. That helps allot... I have now made up my mind i am going to do this.
do you by any chance have the part# for the sprayers and the bolt?
Also, can the 4th bolt on the oil pump be drilled and taped? or is that not feasible?

And i have to say, i love what you have done with that block. its a nice bit of modern automotive art now! LOL and i mean that with the utmost respect.
