Default Plastic Tube

What is the insulated plastic tube that attaches to the intake under the throttle body on the passenger side? (US Spec car). And how us it attached/removed?

The tube is encased in insulating foil just behind the head.

I can't see it. (it's covered by some insulating foil)

Probably the vacuum line to the brake booster?

I can't see it either. I dug around a little to slide the foil back from the intake plenum but I can't see enough of what's under there to figure out what it is or how to remove it. And I'll need to if I have to pull the intake. I expect I'll be doing that VERY soon...

The pic above was the best I can do until I start removing things to pull the intake. But I'd like to know what I'm doing before I screw something up. Hard to find parts for this car these days...

Even with the TB removed, it's not much clearer!

Well, from Graham's image I'd say it must be a vacuum line. But how on earth it attaches & why it's encased in aluminum foil I still don't understand.

I guess I'll have to figure it out when I get that far. I was hoping someone had been there, done that. I'm still afraid of breaking the plastic bits on the car when doing repairs. And there are LOTS of plastic bits.

The shield is there for HEAT. Plastic melts with high heat.

The tube is held with a compression type fitting that releases by pushing the collar on the outside of the fitting.

I have a blown engine out and a few parts to get you an idea what you have.

This is where it is connected under the throttle boby.

This the plastic tube. The left side goes into the fitting.

This is the part you will more than likely need. Quite often the black plastic piece that locks the tube in will break, from being over 20 years old and the heat cycles. If it does break you will only need to replace the black plastic piece.

Thanks for the help, but I'm still stumped. Where/how do I push on the plastic collar? Do I push the collar in towards the center of the intake? Or are there tabs on the collar that I push in towards the center of the plastic tube (Like the vent tube from the valve cover to the intake snorkel)? Note: I didn't notice any tabs surrounding the tube when I slid the insulating shield back to try and see what was under the shield.

Thanks again.

The vac hose (plastic tube) is a push fit into the plastic collar. There are metal teeth on the inside of the collar to retain the hose, similar to a quick-fit plumbing joint. The brass sleeve is pressed into the elbow.

To disengage the hose, press and hold the collar into the sleeve with a small open-ended spanner or similar. The hose should then just pull out.

I agree with BobRoy's recommendation on getting the C2S51816 'Brake booster vac hose connector kit'. There is an 'O' ring on the plastic collar that goes hard over time and is a potential air leak. You can pull the old collar out with a pair of pliers once the hose is out of the way. No need to replace the brass part.

That's helpful. Thanks much. Do you think I can use a fuel line disconnect tool to press in on the plastic collar? Seems like it might work perfectly.

Not sure if I'll order the 'brake booster vac hose kit' or not. If I can get the tube separated I'll take a look at the plastic & O-ring. If I can replace just the O-ring I'll check at the local hardware store and see if there's an available O-ring size that will fit. That seems the simplest solution to the O-ring. If they don't have the 'unique' Jaguar size O-Ring then I'll have to order the kit.

But now I think I know how to separate this hose in order to remove the intake without breaking the hose. At least no more than it's designed to break when you separate it.
