Default Poor front beams illumination

My xk8 has a poor night illumination, it’s kind of yellow, I like to have a brighter illustration. Any suggestions. Thanks

Are your headlight lenses still clear, or have they become cloudy?

How intact is your reflective backing behind the bulbs?

Also, the original bulbs gradually diminish in brilliance and effectiveness as they age. This is true of all vehicles....

I replaced the stock halogens in my '02 XKR with a set of HID's from DDM tuning. It was a night and day difference. The DDM kit was more expensive that the typical ones on ebay but much higher quality from my experience.

You can start by throwing new HID bulbs at the problem (I believe all 2005 XKs had HID). Search "D1S" on eBay. I found a pair of German-made bulbs in the original color for pretty cheap ($20?). Other colors are available, from a bit yellow OEM to white to almost blue. The replacement is pretty straightforward using the access hole in the wheel liner: turn the wheel all the way left or right, pry the plastic panel off, remove the rubber plug, work the metal safety clip off, work the harness connector and replace the bulb. I definitely noticed a big difference in illumination.

Best of luck, keep us posted.

I used Osram Nightbreaker D1S bulbs on my car for the low beams, and these bulbs are very bright. They are pricy but well worth the money for a quality bulb. One thing to note, if you have flickering, then you may need new ballasts.

I’m still scratching my head with regards to a quality LED bulb for the high beams.

Jon, the headlight lenses on these cars are made of glass; they will never be cloudy.

ieccpa,

Your problem is the same one that a lot of XK8-XKR owners have! Jaguar sent a bunch of XKR-XK8's out with Halogen Bulbs in both the low Beams and High Beams. My 2005 XKR came with HID Low Beams but they were still not what I was looking for....So, I changed the Bulbs and the Blasts last year, as they were about 15 years old! The new Bulbs are D1S from Philips and the Blasts are new Valeo's same as the ones that came in the 2005's with HID low beams...You can go to other vendors such as HID Nation or some of the other Bulb Company on the internet and find these Kits as you will need a Kit to convert to HID from Halogen Lights....all that for Low Beams but they are worth it as you will have a much better Lighting System....After you finish that job, then get an LED Kit for the Bright's and you will be fixed-up!
