Default power steering fluid check 1998 XK8

Seems like a simple thing, but I can't find anything that tells if the power steering cap should be tightened to check the fluid level or just resting on top of the reservoir to check the fluid level. What is the proper way to check the fluid level.

Thanks

Screw the cap down into position. Then unscrew it and check the fluid level on the cap's indicator stem.

Various fluid level checks have different procedures so I have never been sure about this one.

Thanks

And the cap does NOT need to be tightened 'gorilla-tight'.

Seems like everybody thinks it will leak unless it is so tight you tear the mounting grommets to get it off!!!!!!!!!!

SNUG IS GOOD.
