Default Power Steering hose leak

After extensive leak hunting I managed to eliminate all leaks and replace all major hoses and delicate parts from the cooling system, and I also replaced the valve cover gaskets again (this time I dabbed some RTV to correct that mistake from when I changed the tensioners).

I parked my car in the garage and checked a few hours later to see if there were any leaks. Lo and behold only one leak left. Upon inspection it was red in colour, so I thought to myself, that is definitely ATF, which means power steering.

This is what I found above the leak:

It seems this hose is leaking at the connectors, which tells me the o-rings are shot. I was thinking about removing the hose and having a new one made at a hydraulic hose shop. This is the driver's side hose; I already fixed a similar leak in the passenger side under the airbox by cutting the hose, yanking out the connector, slipping in a new hose with clamps. I would like to avoid that kind of trouble this time around.

How do I go about removing it? This hose seems less accessible than the one under the airbox. Is there a specific quick disconnect tool I can use? How do I remove the connectors and fix or replace those? I don't want to mend it the same way I did the other hose.

Sorry, the picture isn't very clear. The hose that you say is leaking... Is that the hose that goes from the power steering reservoir to the pump itself?

Have you thought about using a product like Lubeguard? I think thats what its called. I used it in my XKR not because it had a leak just to get rid of any annoying sound that occasionally appeared. Its good stuff. Just look it up on Amazon etc and read the reviews.

I dont have any connection with the product. Just as a user.

Lubegard 20404 Universal Power Steering Fluid Protectant, I think its leak cure too?

Here you go, save you looking it up.

I know its a UK site and you guys all drive on the wrong side of the road but it should work just as well for you.

Ah, right you are. It is the hose connected to the metal pipe.

Does that work with Automatic Transmission fluid which is what these cars use in the power steering system?

The hose connected to the metal pipe is the ac refrigerant line, not tranny or power steering. You should use simple green on all of it to clean it up and then find your leak.

In that case the oil must be leaking from higher up... Thanks I'll clean up the area and check to find where my power steering leak is coming from.

Why did the forum automatically link to eBay without me having pasted a url?

It works in my 2003 XKR Automatic. I asked Lubeguard before I put it in. If you want to be sure about using it in your car you could always email them and ask if its suitable and will it fix leaks etc.

Alright, I'll get some of the lubeguard.

I cleaned up the area and identified my leak; its the hose that goes from the reservoir to the pump.

So, the hose itself costs $20 from RockAuto. Its the low pressure hose MJA390AD according to my parts catalogue.

Can an off the shelf hose from Pep Boys be used instead? As long as the diameter and length is appropriate it'll work. The hose doesn't seem to have any complicated bends.

I wouldn't worry about the lubegauard. You have identified the leak

hose is MJA3980AD I would only buy a hose that is fitted.

Alright, I'm going to order the hose. In the meantime before it arrives, I'm going to cut off about ˝ from the end of the hose that is leaking and clamp it back.
