Default Question about modules

Hi folks just a quick question about the electronic modules. Will the modules from a '97 XK8 convertable work in my '97 XK8 coupe or do the vcat
numbers from both vehicles need to match. So far mine are working fine but I have the opportunity to buy some used modules and I thought that
I should buy them for future issues. The modules I'm looking at are the SLM, ignition module, door modules, seat modules, shift illumination module
and a few others. The donor cars VIN is 011779 and mine is 002693 if that helps.

If the VCAT's match your good to go. If they don't you have to watch out for version if the VCAT's list a d as last letter you can get an e or an f to work but a module ending in c is a no go. Something to do with firmware version. Some modules are plug and play with matching VCAT's but things like SCLM have to be programmed. Having a spare sitting around is not something I would do or worry about.

Hello Avern1,
Thanks for your reply. I am ordering a few parts from a guy that is parting out his '97 XK8 and after
reading on the forum about the module problems other people had getting theirs and getting the right
ones I thought it may be wise to have them as spares. My car runs beautifully but at 22 years old and
148,000km things are bound to go bad. Not being mechanically inclined and reading other peoples issues
with their cars I guess I'm just being a little paranoid.

Default You’re not paranoid - it’s a survival instinct

Ozbot,

You’re not being paranoid and you’re right to be concerned. Go for whatever you think you need for spares.

DO NOT USE A BODY CONTROL MODULE.
BCM are specific to Coupe and Conv.

The top operation is NOT configured to a coupe. The Conv BCM will like 'confuse' a coupe.

Inveterate hoarder here, but I'd be looking at any of the hard-to obtain parts. 97 ECM would definitely be on my list.

Hi guys, thanks for your replies. I plan to be in it for the long haul with this car and I'm sure as the years go
by it will have it's issues and parts will be more difficult to find. Please correct me if I'm mistaken but I'm
assuming that most of the parts like the coolant overflow tank, wiring harnesses, wheel speed sensors,
switches and mechanical / engine parts would be the same in both cars since they are from the same
model year. Mine is a coupe and his is a convertible.
Thanks to motorcarman for the heads up on the body control module. Any other advise would be greatly
appreciated. I am buying these parts unseen so if you think there is anything I should stay away from
please let me know. This is my first Jag and I'll be first to admit that I know nothing about fixing them,
especially the electronics, but over time I'll learn and it will be handy to have some extra parts.

Tom

Just a bit of a follow up on the modules question for others wondering about this. I was looking through the
parts pdfs and noticed that some modules are different for VINs to 003299 than for VINs 003300 - on of the
'97 XKK8s, the seat control module for example while the ignition control module is the same for all XK8s of
the model years '97 - '02. This is also the same for some of the other parts so it looks like I have some research
to do. Thank you again for your input and to the people who contribute to the stickies.

The North American cars did NOT use RFID ('chipped' keys) for the 1997MY Jaguar cars.
The 1998 was the introduction year for that security feature so many things are different.

Chris Lutz; This is a company I used in Texas to rebuild my ECM unit. They are fairly priced, good warranty and the turnaround time was fantastic. The units been in the car for almost 2yrs and no problems.
