Radio code? - RESOLVED

Radio code? - RESOLVED
I have disconnected the battery several times, even had the old one go dead but have never had to enter a code on the radio.
I recently replaced the micro switch in the door latch, had the battery disconnected for the job. Turned on radio tonight and it wanted a code! I hit a couple of numbers and now it says "Please Wait" (very polite!)
I'm guessing I have to go to the dealer but thought I'd ask if anyone had any input........

You are very unlucky to have a coded radio fitted outside UK or Europe.
The radio is now locked following three unsuccessful attempts to enter the 4-digit security code and you will have to leave it POWERED ON for an hour before you can enter another code (see section marked in red):
This is the code card for my previous XK8:
If your card is not with the vehicle documents, any Jaguar Dealer can look up the code from the VIN using the Direct Dealer Warranty system.
Missing code cards is a regular issue here in the UK and most dealers supply the code free of charge on proof of ownership.

Funny thing is I didn't know it had a code, I haven't needed one before.
Went to dealer this morning, they looked into retrieving a code for the radio. Turns out they require the radio serial number as nothing showed up for the VIN. Just waiting to hear back from them, will keep you posted.
Thank you for the replies and input guys.

Maybe they changed the set-up. if your Radio switched from US to another Country/Aerea you need the code after a battery-disconnect/removal etz.
In the USA the radio-frequences are only ???.1 / ???.3 / ???.5 / ???.7 etc.
Rest of the world: ???.1 / ???.2 / ???.3 / ???.4 etc.
If so, just switch back to US and you dont need the code anymore.

Nice theory but Jaguar make it more difficult than that.
With a coded radio, the code is required immediately after POWER ON so you can't get as far as changing setup without first entering it.
I wouldn't be surprised if there's a jumper on the circuit board that controls the code/no code requirement but I've never had a Jaguar radio apart to check this.

My Car came with a Code Card but it's not needed, even after removing the Battery for several hours.
A friend bought a used Cadillac that needed a code. We took it to a Cadillac dealer who called the Cadillac office in Detroit and got a Code that Unlocked the Radio permanently.

There is a switch on underside of my radio with two option, "STD" & PRM". Not sure if this could change the option of needing a code, but as I haven't touched the switch I have no idea why now out of the blue I now need a code!
Called dealer last night just before they close for the weekend, they hadn't heard back from tech.......

There's not much to these radios when you take them out of the console, just a regular size deck with a nice fancy faceplate (pis 2&3)
Hoping Monday brings a code for my radio.....

It is clear that first needs to be decode the Unit before any setups can be done.
I was thinking about why it happened and my advise is to check wether he is still in the USA-Area or not:
Press "Tape Eject" and "AM/FM" Buttons together
Now you use the Buttons 1-9 to chose several set-ups. As far as I remember you need to press "9" to get into the Aera/frequency Selection.

I read something about the radio setup a while back and I think I fiddled with it. Is there a code option in any of the 1-9 choices? Anyone know what the options are, couldn't find where I previously read this stuff.
EDIT: I went out to car and poked around the options on the radio.
1 Euro RDS
2 Tape clean
3 Antenna clean (so I cleaned mine)
4 Telephone
5 Tape eject
6 Vol high/low
7 AF on/off
8 Not used on my radio
9 Fade enable/disable
Nothing about code options, so I'm still in the dark as to why I need one now.
Entered the code provided by my dealer (at no charge! Thank you Kelowna Auto Sport) re-entered radio presets and radio is up and running. Even greeted me with a "Welcome"!
Thanks again for all your suggestions and input.

There is no choice of Code-on/off in the Set-up.
Depending the chosen Aera (USA, ASIA, Europe, Japan) the code is required or not.
And sorry, the set-up-range is not 1-9 but 0-9.
And it is the "0" you need to chose/change the World-Area. press the "0" as often as you reach USA and hopefully it is done.

Just in from prodding at the 0 button. Radio was set to Euro, maybe from when I was fiddling a few months ago. Perhaps this is the reason I suddenly required a code after power being off? I guess if anyone wants there North American radio to have a code they should set to Euro, just make sure to get the code from the dealer first! (Radio worked fine in Euro after I entered the code)
Function # 6 (vol high/low) now doesn't work, but I'm not perplexed at all about that.
Thanks again for all your help.

sometimes the code is written...
Check for a hand written 4 digit code in there.
