Unhappy Realgauge install FAIL by my mechanic. broken circuit board connector

Had my mechanic try to install the realgauge temp module and he calls me saying he broke the circuit board connector. the connector with 3 or 4 prongs. The coolant gauge is stuck in the H position and I need to get this fixed asap. I emailed steve but figured I would post this to see if you know what I need to order. I really hope its not pricey
Thanks a lot everyone

No worries. I will make it right for no charge. My policy is to guarantee a successful installation, even if a mistake is made.

I will get a new module out to you by Monday.

You had told me earlier your oil gauge was working, so I am assuming it is the 4-pin ribbon cable connector that goes to the coolant gauge motor that is broken. I'll send you an entire new RealGauge module to remedy this.

Since I am in the Wash DC Area, Steve was able to install both the Real Gauge and the conversion from the Nav System to the 3 Gauge Cluster one Saturday morning. Very pleasant and personable man. His wife even provided lunch. What more can you ask for...

He designs and provides an excellent Product and gives excellent after the sale service (as can seen from the posts above).

Highly recommended...

I couldn't agree more about Steve (WhiteXKR). I have installed a number of his products and even had him do some custom design stuff for me. He is one of the people that make this forum the best forum on the Internet and, if you love your XK8/R, his RealGauge product is an absolute must have mod.

Exclamation

It turns out the mechanic broke off the connector 4 prong that is soldered to the actual circuit board of the instrument cluster not the real gauge.
he wasnt being very descriptive on the phone and really I should have never brought the jag to this guy he is a backyard vw mechanic and now im left with a instrument cluster with no working coolant gauge at all and the back lighting is dim on the right side of the speedo all the way to the coolant temp gauge. I imagine I am looking at a purchase of a new instrument cluster. Ive looked on ebay and see clusters for about $100 surprisingly... do these need to be re programmed or can I just swap it out with my old one?
anyone have suggestions for me driving in the meantime? Not sure if even the red warning light will come on in case of an overheat. Best not to drive at all?
this is one of those cases where you try to save a nickel and spend a dime.
PS: steve thanks for everything but its not the unit you sold me that is the problem so no need to send me another!

Most likely I have the parts to repair what he broke on your cluster. Send it to me next day or 2nd day and I will turn it around to you this week. I will only charge you for parts and postage.

If you get a cluster from ebay, it needs to have a matching part number and VCATS (software version), plus the odometer reading will be wrong and that cannot be changed easily.

Thumbs up

Thanks guys. but I am an XK owner and longtime forum member first and foremost. The little company I run grew out of my participation in this community.

My customers are my peers. I just want to treat them as friends and the way I would like to be treated if the tables were turned.

Wouldn't it be great if everyone who supplied Jaguar parts behaved this way.

Following Steve's immediate offer to put things right at his own expense, you'd best advise your mechanic his only option now is to pay Steve's return air fare Arlington to Oahu to personally supervise the installation.

Graham
