Rear Back up sensors keep beeping in reverse when nothing is back there
Rear Back up sensors are beeping frantically whenever the car is in reverse. Nothing on them and no sign of damage
Any ideas?
Thanks

about every 100th time, or more rarely, when I’m putting the car in reverse for the first time of the day, I will get the spurious warning for seemingly no reason at all, even with clean sensors. After that first false alarm the sensors will behave. And it only happens every 3-4 months at most.
The false alarm hasn’t happened in quite a long while.
if you get your issue sorted out please report the results.

While backing in reverse, each of the 4 backup sensors in the rear bumper normally emit a very slightly audible clicking noise. Are we to assume that all 4 indeed are clicking; else, any sensor not clicking denotes a failure and will cause the backup alarm to beep constantly while in reverse?

I definitely agree, but I, as are some others, are somewhat more fortunate to have factory access holes in the metal bumper core for the two inboard sensors.
While I cannot speak for all X100's, the 2 "right angle" outboard sensors and the 2 "straight" inboard sensors are complertely interchangeable on my 2002 XKR Conv.
(I did purchase a "right angle" that I was able to install inboard.)

Agreed as that is typical of all ultrasonic sensors. Unfortunately or fortunately, the system started working properly before I could check.
We will see what it does in the future
