Default rear bumper mount aluminium corrosion

This is my second bumper mount to have gone this way, I wonder if it is possible to machine a new part to fix the problem.

Kim seemed to think a strong alkaline solution would dissolve the aluminium oxide.

So a bit of hot water and a sprinkling of the caustic soda crystals gave this.

30 mins later it is still fizzing away.

More pics later. I'm thinking, use a length of pipe with a bracket welded on to replace the outer part, forget the screw adjustment and provide that adjustment with washers.

Isn't it great when a plan comes together.

Just need to trim the pipe and weld on a couple of small brackets.

As always - very enterprising.
How are you planning to adjust the insert height? Using replacement brackets, I had to set them at nearly an inch on my 2001 XK8 to get the right clearance on the bumper gap:

Liberally coated in Coppaslip before finally refitting the bumper.

My car needs about a 2 to 3mm adjustment, I have two plans, one, use a large washer and enlarge the hole to fit between the top of the pipe and the adjuster, or find a plastic sleeve that I can fit between the inside of the pipe and the threaded adjuster. if I can get the perfect bit of softish plastic I think that the adjuster will be able to cut a thread into the plastic packer/sleeve and then still be able to work as intended.
