Default Rear Camber Off

Another fun problem. The rear camber is off, -1.2 and -1.5. Don't want to chew up my new to me used tires. Normally this could be caused by sagging springs but both sides measure 15.75". So I am guessing the only way to correct this is with adding shims to the half-axles? Or am I missing something?

The inner camber shims are generally 4mm from the factory.

I keep 6mm shims in stock to send with a car to the alignment shop in case the rear camber needs one or both.

6mm shims will generally set the camber to within tolerances on an older car unless something else is wrong.

Just an observation.

You can buy an assortment of shims but they have gotten 'pricey' in the last several years.

Are you replacing the 4mm shims with the 6mm or adding the 6mm to them?

Thanks,

Dave

REPLACE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The MAX shim sold by Jaguar is 7.5mm so I would not exceed that by much.
I have read about people lowering the rear suspension and wanting longer flange studs to add 8mm or 9mm to get the correct camber.

You will run out of threads for the nuts with more than about 8mm (Two 4mm shims stacked??????)

Bob, thanks for the info, could you advise on what shim I need for the following rear camber and where I can order them? Is this really worth adjusting?

My ride height on the rear is 15.5"

Left -1.3
Right -1.2
Spec is -0.9 to -0.1

It's been almost 10 years since I did alignments at the Jag dealer so I have forgotten all the math involved in shims vs camber.

Brutal did a write-up on a post about a year or 2 ago when this discussion came up.

I don't remember if it was X100 or X308 but they are the same.

99% of the time I installed shims, it was a 6mm shim because that what the parts dept had in stock (we used them enough to stock them).

If I wanted another size, it needed to be ordered. The parts dept refused to stock parts that did not sell on a regular basis.

@Bob (motorman) - might you have any source - dimension or part numbers stashed away, as I can foresee me needing a stock of these shims in my x100 shop, frankly, I never knew they existed.

Here are the part numbers from the SNG Barratt Catalog which you can download from their website for FREE.
Part is called a "Half shaft spacer"; A/R is As Required for the quantity column.
You are supposed to only use one per side (not doubled up).
Prices vary, but around $40-$60 USD each (list from Jaguar).
3.5mm CBC480635 A/R
4.0mm CBC480640 A/R
4.5mm CBC480645 A/R
5.0mm CBC480650 A/R
5.5mm CBC480655 A/R
6.0mm CBC480660 A/R
6.5mm CBC480665 A/R
7.0mm CBC480670 A/R
7.5mm CBC480675 A/R
