Get yourself a Honda Accord or Toyota Camry. A lot more peace of mind, but you must accept the fact that you're essentially driving a boring orange crate....

Default Thank you

Thanks for the mirror info. Have this problem. Glad to know there is a reasonable fix.

I understand the frustration when expensive fixes catch one by surprise. My sympathies go with you.

But I have to say, when I was 18 I owned a 1964 MGB convertible. Had it painted cream yellow and though is frequently acted up on me ..... Of all the nice ( and dependable) cars in my life .... I miss my yellow submarine the most.

Try finding another car with heated seats...for the backseat passengers who are sitting on Connolly leather:-) I really enjoy driving at highway speeds, listening to high fidelity music at low volume in the background while having a quiet conversation with my wife without raising my voice. The interior of my XJ is wisper quiet due to thicker glass, and sound deading materieals in the body that you just don't get in cheaper cars. I did have to repair my mirror too but Radar-mirror.com fixed my original like new for less than a cheap one from JC Whitney that was made in China. I have had my car for over seven years, put 90,000 miles on it and it has been good to me. But I also do almost all of my own maintenance and never used expensive synthetic:-).

Question xk8 rearview mirror replacement

i need to replace my 98 xk8 rearview mirror - it is a donnelly 011530 with 6 wires [black,brown,gray,green,white,yellow] + a yellow connector

i see available units with 3 + 8 wires

1=my question is if i buy one of these and just do not connect the wires will the mirror function function just as an ordinary mirror?

2= or will the cat get upset because the mirror is not connected?

3= if i buy a 3 wire unit can i just connect the 3 wires to make it happy?

4= if i buy an 8 wire unit can i just connect 6 wires to make it happy?

You just need to compare the wiring diagrams for both and what wires are in waht cavities. Unpin the new mirror and unpin the connector in your old one. Then repin the yellow connector accordingly. I did this with a late model 03 mirror when my 95 went out. Works fine but i also changed the mirror to glass mount

Hey Greek--How was the removal of the damaged mirror. Do you have instructions. Radar-Mirror has instructions but they are not for an XKR and there are quite a few steps to remove.

thanks

Gary
