Question Reinforcing the flimsy rear window regulator plate...

...has anybody done this? The left side rear window of my 2004 XK8 conv took a dump on me a while back ( won't raise or lower, crunching sound, etc. ), and I'm considering either..

1. taking a crack at repairing the present, non-op regulator, restringing and adjusting, adjusting, adjusting, adjusting, then reinforcing the flimsy area on it with a thicker metal plate.
or
2. Buying a working, used regulator, lubing all pertinent parts that need it, then reinforcing the flimsy area with a thicker metal plate.

Has anybody here actually done the reinforcing plate themselves? Any suggestions for a thickness, size, shape, etc? Or maybe there's one commercially available?
I know there was an outfit in Florida that specialized in this very thing, but I can't seem to find them on Ebay anymore.

Any and all pertinent info is sincerely appreciated, Thank You in advance!

The regulator frames in my 2004 model are already reinforced so you should be good there. I do remember somebody came up with a (genius idea) long bolt from the body to the regulator frame that would also prevent the flex.

If you decide to rebuild the regulator my DIY experience might help. Here's a link to the cable kit on Amazon.
