Default Removing dust from gauges

A couple of the gauges in the centre cluster have quite a bit of dust in them. Is it possible to (realtively easily....) remove and disassemble them to give them a clean?

(I've poked around with a screwdriver to try and remove the wood dash thinking it might just pop off but unfortunately it didn't come and I made a tiny chip in it!)

Oh, be careful Keiron! They are clipped on there, but don't use a screwdriver.

Thanks. I've ordered some plastic trim removal tools from ebay so will wait for them to come before trying again.

You should be able to just pull the wood off with your hands. Two clips at the top and bottom of it. If you like I can take a picture of the back of it.

Thanks.

The problem is getting your fingers around the edges of it without removing the dash panels to either the left or the right. I've bought some plastic tools off ebay and I'll give it a go this weekend.

Hoping of course once I've done that I will be able to take the gauges apart to get the dust out and that they aren't sealed units (I assume they aren't if muck got in there in the first place!)

Just pull the airbag panel off, that one comes off the easiest. The cluster panel is the one that is a pain to get off.

Default Pictures yes please

I'd like to see the pictures before I bust into mine. I've got a trip odometer reset button that needs to be replaced or repaired.
Thanks,
Mike

Default AirBag

Where the four black taps are that's the docking point.

Default Cluster

To remove the cluster panel you must remove the steering panel. The steering panel has two 8mm bolts at the bottom and two clips at the top.

Remove the two screws at the bottom of the cluster panel then put the steering column in the down position. Slide the cluster panel down so that you don't break off the tabs at the top.

Smile RE center Panel

See my Photos and you will be able to tell where the clips are. The top clips are installed behind the Air cond outlets and when you remove the panel the clips will usually come with the panel. when you reinstall I recommend that you remove the clips from the panel tab then insert the clips back into the slots and press the panel into the clips. Otherwise the clip reach can shorten and the panel does not fit as flush. I think I have removed my panel at least 50 time while working on the nav system---No damage YET!!!!!!!!!!!

Finally got round to having a go at this. Pulling the centre dash panel off took an awful lot of force and there was an almighty crack as it unclipped. No apparent damage though.

Unfortunately, the gauges appear to be sealed units so there is no way of removing the dust - which begs the question: how did it get in there in the first place?

Oh well. Will keep my eyes open for a used unit but imagine it will not be cheap.

Take the back lamp out of the gauge and spray canned air in to gauge.

Thanks. To be honest I'm not sure how you take the lamp out or what would be achieved by blowing air in - it might just move the dust to a more obvious position!
