Default Replacement oil cooler hoses

I 'm getting just a film of oil where the hose is swedged to the end pipe, not even enough to drip yet. Nevertheless, I'm thinking it's wise to replace all 4 hoses on my '02 XKR sooner rather than later.

is there a best source for these hoses. Looking at the SNG Barratt catalog, it appears that only 3 of the hoses are available. One of the feed hoses is not available from them. What other source is there for that hose ?

( I live in a pretty small town, don't think there is anyone here making up high pressure hoses .)

I just ordered all four hoses fro my 2004 from SNGBarratt UK.....if the UK has them I'm pretty sure the US branch can get them too

I don't know if yours are the same as on my '05 XKR, but I recently found that the return hose that connects to the oil cooler (C2N2910) is no longer available/manufactured. Fortunately, Gary at JagBits US was able to refurbish my old hose by attaching new rubber to the metal parts. I believe he charges $350 for this service.

The problem children in this case are 2 line that attach to the engine. Those are the ones that go first, maybe due to the heat and vibration being closer to the engine. If you could replace just those 2 you would be covering the worst offender. However, you milage may vary. TM

I just replaced all my oil cooler hoses and installed a new oil cooler twice the size as the original oil cooler. AN10 fittings with nylon braid PTFE hose.
I a week or so I will try to do a simple wright up with photos. Kind of busy right now taking care of wife and her mother.

It would be interesting to see what your new oil temperature will be with the new oversized cooler. With the stock oil cooler my oil temp is a consistent 15-20 degrees Fahrenheit over the coolant temp. I get that data from the OBD-II reader / gauge that I have permanently attached to the left hand corner of the dash.

Zray, yesterday I had a chance to put it to the test. My wife and I set in traffic creeping along while making our way through an accident. We barely moved for over 1/2 hour. After about 15min the oil temp was 225F. @25 Minutes sitting it made it up to 230 and got no higher. It cooled backed back down to about 200F very quickly when we got back up to 70 mph. @ 75 mph it came down to 190F.

I sure am glad I had the oil cooler on when this happened.
These Jags could probably do without the oil cooler but I think they really benefit from having one.
PS
I ran the Air conditioner while sitting. This may have helped to cool it as the fans would be running I think.

Jack,

Are you planning to keep your custom-made U-shaped metal oil cooler bypass tube? If it will fit my wife's 2006 4.2 engine, I may want to install it some day....

John, I'll give that some thought. If I decide to let it go I'll let you know soon.

I have the same oil temp as you do while the car is sitting still or barely moving in traffic.

But at speed i'm a good 20 degrees Fahrenheit, hotter than your oil. Likely because I have inefficient Nissen radiator. my coolant and oil temps are now a good 10-15 degrees hotter than they were when I had the stock radiator (RIP) in place. As soon as I can manage I'm going to get the best used original XKR radiator that I can find and replace the unsatisfactory Nissen unit.

Last year I had a debate with myself about buying the Nissen unit, as the forum had warned they didn't keep the engines as cool. Primarily due to in insufficient fin count per inch. The XK8's seem to be more tolerant on the Nissen radiator than the XKR's. But I rolled the dice and bought the Nissen unit in hopes it would have a longer life than a used unit. Now I'm pretty sure I made the wrong choice. I can't recommend the Nissen radiator to anyone with a 4.0 XKR who will be driving in 100 degree Fahrenheit, weather.

With your larger oil cooler your oil temp might even be cooler if it wasn't for the oil temp thermostat closing off the flow to the cooler when the oil temp drops

Zray the oil cooler is always working. I know they have a diverter valve that is supposed to start sending oil to the cooler when it reaches 217-225 degreesF but when i've been on the interstate at 75 mph sometimes the oil is only 180 degrees when I stop. I get out and feel of the fitting on the oil cooler on the input side and it is very hot and barely warm on the output side so I know the oil is flowing at some small rate all the time.
I believe going with larger oil cooler is good as the original oil cooler is very small.

cut the crimps off and double norma worm drives with safety wire or a small t-bolt. oetikers will work too if you’re able to really crush them

i would not be satisfied with oil that didn’t get over 200 F for at least some of the time. Oil gets water condensation in it every time the engine cools off. If the oil doesn’t get to 200 F or more for at least a while then the condensation is never burned out and the oil does a lousy job of lubrication, it gets “sludgy”.

just keep an eye on your oil consistency and you will likely be OK.

Z

PS

sound's like the diverter valve is stuck open, I’ve never heard of that happening but what do I know ?

I am not educated on the precise operation of the oil cooler diverter valve. It may be 100% normal for a small amount of oil to pass thru to the cooler. That said , using my car for an example I can’t feel any warmth on the cooler or the oil lines until the engine has fully warmed up. Of course, one car can just be an anomaly.

Mine will get up to temperature also, but stays at least warm after that. When driving 55mph on country roads, the oil temp runs 200-210F most of the time. The faster you go the cooler the oil even without the cooler in place.
I apologize if I,ve diverted or hijacked this thread.

Yes, my coolant and oil temperatures also drop above 80 mph.
