Replacing alternator on 1997 XK8. Which ones work
Good morning folks. I'm looking for a replacement alternator for my 1997 XK8. The Denso unit is unavailable in town and a couple weeks away if I order it. One of the joys of living in a small town in the middle of nowhere. I can get a Bosch or Remy but I seem to remember reading that if I use a brand other than Denso the warning message and red light stay on even though it's charging the battery but I can't find the thread again. Has anyone used a different brand alternator?
Thanks for your response. There is 1 guy that fixes alternators in my area but he says it will be a month before he can get to it and by then there will be a foot + of snow on the ground. My mechanic will do the re and re and says he will fit me in as soon as I get a replacement. I can get a Bosch or Remy new in town or order a remand Denso unit delivered in about a week or 10 days.
The shop that refurbished my wife's 2006 XK8's alternator in July 2018 (and my 1999 Ram's starter in March 2023) has tons of customers sending them their starters and alternators from all over the world. Turnaround time on the Denso units with the proper Denso kits is usually 2 to 3 days. Call them and discuss. It would be well worth your time....
