Default Replacing Lower Wishbone Bushings

I need to replace both front lower control arm bushings. I have searched the forum and the internet in general, but still have some questions.

Do I have to remove the entire wishbone assembly? Or can it be done while in place?

I am going to use powerflex poly replacements which will just push in, but will the OEM units have to be pressed out?

I assume I will need to put a load on the springs during the process, correct?

Any general tips or cautions on this procedure would be greatly appreciated.

I had to take mine to a machine shop to get the bushings out. Others have had better luck but regardless I'd think you need to take them off the car.

You need to remove the wishbone first, you don't need to worry about the spring, it is held captive.

You need to push out (with a C clamp) or drill (round the rubber) out the centre section then hammer in a chisel.

You are going the correct way with Poly, so much easier to push back in.

Thanks RaceDiagnostics, the pictures are really helpful.

I'll probably order the poly bushes today or tomorrow and try to work it in next weekend.

Don't want to delay, I have new tires on the front.

Just my 2 cents... I would be replacing the ball joints lower and upper at the same time and if you haven't replaced the front shock I would replace at the very least the lower bushing as well if not the shocks and upper mount. Ball joints are a bit tougher and will require a 20 ton press but you will be so much happier to have a fresh front end.

The upper mounts, coil springs, shocks, upper A-arm bushings and related parts are all new or new-ish. Agree on the ball joints, but they are in good shape and may have to wait for the next round.
