I finally undertook to chisel out 9 of 11 tranny t27 bolts, the other two just came out as one would hope.
I replaced the oil pan/filter and the sealing sleeves. I’m hoping this will cure my 6 – 4 kick down howl. I only notice these weird transmission happenings after the car is warm (hot), time will tell.
But the reason for this post: I was using a bmw write up on how to do it, this write up states that after the replacement one must reset the transmission values (which makes sense) but they use a foxwell 150 to clear the old parameters.
I was under the impression that with the x100+zf6hp26 the only 2 ways are with dedicated software or one other where you go through a very specific sequence of key on off events.
So the question is…can this foxwell unit function for the x100/zf like they are showing for the bmw?
It is definitely not possible with just switching the key on and off and requires some kind of advanced OBD device. AFAIK the only way for the x100 is to use the dealer software, but I have not tried the Foxwell tool.
I've read this various times in various forums ...
'You could also try resetting the transmission by entering the car pressing the starter button but Do not put foot on the brake pedal to turn the engine over . Instead put foot firmly on the gas pedal and hold for 3mins . This will reset the gearbox . Then switch the ignition off, don't touch anything for 2 mins then turn the car engine on and take for a spirited blast ,'
I'd sure like to work, does anyone other than George have experiance3 with this procedure?

as a follow up further down that page

MY 2005 x100 has a keyed momentary twist to start (engage starter).
Please walk me through the ‘pressing starter button’ sequence with my 2005 xk8.

Ok it is just the same , put key in ignition turn to first position (don't start engine) You will see dash lights up . Then press gas pedal firmly Hold for 3 mins use your watch to see , then after holding gas pedal in for 3 mins, release the gas pedal and switch ignition off remove key , sit in the car for 2 mins Touch nothing inc window and door , then start car take for a good Blast at speed . I have seen a YouTube video of this for your car will post it soon check in later
Resetting the adaptations and doing the drive cycle on a 6HP transmission is a very specific and fiddly procedure where you need to be is a very narrow torque range for each upshift and downshift 3 times each. The 1-2 shift is the hardest to get right. All of this is started by and managed by some OBD device, either Jaguar SDD or perhaps some 3rd party device.

My Foxwell device with the dedicated JLR software definitely has a menu entry for resetting the transmission adaptations. I have never tried it, though.
