Hi all,

I checked my mirrors (98 XK8 Convertible). Found the neutral position of the selector switch and pulled the joy stick back for about 15 seconds. Nothing. I manually folded the mirrors again and they became easier to move. Seemed there is a spring loaded detente to keep the mirror either folded in or folded out.

Hi, Thanks for this. I tried that too and ... nothing. Auto would be so nice (especially in NYC!)
I will have to try again to fold them in manually. They really seem stuck though!

I have the exact same situation on my '06 mirrors. Several in the forum seem to think the electric folding is a 'standard' option. My '06 is a Victory Editin, so I would think little was deleted.
Now to try to lock them in place for when they are in the wind slip stream.

Good morning!

A little lubricating spray would probably help. Having lived in the City (financial district) for many years, I fully agree.

Thanks! turns out I just had to slightly change the angle of how I was doing it and they folded in just fine. Yeah, fingers crossed she stays ok on the UWS!

Mirror Men & Lady,

I have never seen a Folding Mirror on a XK8 or XKR! I've heard of it but never have ever seen one! If you have an XK8 or XKR with them Please send a Photo! I'd just like to say I've seen one with Folding Mirrors........All I can do is move the Right Hand Mirror by using the little Joy Stick when I am backing up.....It dips when I Pull the joy stick while in Reverse! But I have never seen a Folder.....

I was 'playing' with my mirror switch a few days ago, and heard a 'click' and saw a little movement in my retract mode. I dug out my papers and found the original 'Window Sticker'. It lists folding mirrors as one of the specs for the "Victory Edition". Now I have to go in and see if I can determine why the mirrors will not fold.

Here in UK, most parking lots are still marked out to a standard introduced for cars of the 60s and 70s so they're a bit tight for more modern vehices. This makes folding mirrors a great addition. Even better is to arrange for them to fold on locking the car and unfold when unlocking, so I have designed and built a module for each mirror to do just that.

This video shows mine folding on Double Locking (two presses - one to lock, another to deadlock) and unfolding on Unlock. Normal fold/unfold using the joystick is unaffected by this additional arrangement

I have heard of folks retro-fitting the "power fold" mirrors here in the states, but I don't think I've heard of a car over here coming with them.

Now Astromorg! --- Isn't that neat? My 2005 does not have them...only the Right Mirror Dips when in reverse...I like it!

Astromorg,

Very nice! That would be a great option for both mirrors here in the states. Few people are careful as to how close they get to another vehicle while passing and / or parking. Was it difficult to construct?

Just got mine to start folding using the 'Joy Stick'. Have not tried the key fob yet. Will lube well and see what happens. Seems to need brakes applied to work???

The designing of the autofold modules was certainly the most difficult part, Construction OK if you're handy with a soldering iron and making stripboard circuits. Fitting required seven wires from the new module (One module per door/mirror) to be spliced into various wires from the door module. The problem for you with my design is that it utilises the UK Double Locking system that I don't think is fitted to US spec cars. That could be an awkward aspect requiring a rethink!

Mirror folding is meant to be independent of the braking system. Folding by using the fob is not possible without fitting a custom designed module to each mirror system as mentioned above.

My 2000 XKR has dip mirror in reverse, and a center position on the switch, but does not fold. Do all have manual folding mirrors? Mine is stuck and I dont want to destroy them......

Astromorg,

I can imagine the design phase was the most time consuming. I can handle a soldering iron and design / build simple stripboard circuits ok. I am not familiar with the UK Double Locking System though. And since my mirrors are manual, I would have to basically add the Jaguar motors, gears etc or just replace the whole mirror units with the electric folding ones. Would love to have the electric folding option.

After retracting my mirrors, I wiped down the inside of the 'fold'. Pretty dirty, but I also found some type of rubberized material along the leading edge, and also on the bottom. Do not know if this was supposed to be there or not.

Default Don’t close manually if you have electric option

It is well explain in the owners manual « do not close manually, it might damage the mechanism »

If you have the electric folding option avoid any manually folding operations.

READ your manual first, it is well explain.

I think that might have been the problem with my mirrors. They had been manually folded(before I got the car.).

Sam and All,

I tried my Mirrors manually and they break back over a little hump and Close...You could do this at any time but MANUALLY! Didn't hurt the Reverse drop at all...So I guess everyone has Folding Mirrors,, Just not automatic Folders.....
