Default Ripped off

I had a guy in atlanta ga, to replace my hoses for my convertible top, cost me 1500. After he so called repaired it, it was slow to go up and down and now it won't work at all, I called him to tell him my problem, he quoted I only replaced the two main hoses, it may be the other ones broken now. He told me he replaced all my hoses, guess now I am without a top working, what to do now.

Welcome to the forum, although not under the best of circumstances. You say it would only go up and down slowly, but was there any fluid under the car, indicating leakage? It may just be low on fluid. Whatever the reason, best stay away from Marvin. If you are in the Atlanta area I would be willing to take a look at it and see if anything obvious is wrong. I'm not proposing to do any repairs, just an inspection.

Firegirlpam, give RJ a chance to look at what you have. If nothing else he can steer you in the right direction.
Sorry about the RIP OFF.

+1 for Wizard. But I'm thinking it might be simple and may not require an appointment at a shop.
Firegirlpam, I'm going to send you a private message with my phone number if you want to talk.

No fluid under car or at the lite interior inside car, the top will not go down at all. I spent 1500 for Marvin to replace hoses, he told me he replaced them all, now he is saying he only replaced the two main lines for 1500, I can't afford to do this again, not sure what to do now, what's your opinion , thanks, I am in the peachtree city area.

gear box fault is a possible transmission fault but before thinking worst case scenario, how old is your battery??? Are you getting any other indications?? Weak batteries can give all kind of weird faults and indications. Advance Auto or Autozone can check your battery and charging system for you at no cost

If the battery checks out, have them read the codes. I'm not sure the generic readers they use at the stores will show all transmission codes, and any codes that are displayed should be written down and reported here for interpretation. The store reader explanations are often incorrect.

Do you have anything in writing indicating that all hoses would be replaced? If not you just got ripped off and lesson learned. If you do than take him to small claims court.

At the lest file a complaint with the better business bureau and the state agency that regulates comerance.

Maybe I read too fast, but did you have a chance to check that the Petcock on the pump is fully closed? You wouldn't be the first of us to miss that.

Thanks for helping, but that problem was solved yesterday when they brought the car to my house and we found that the top operates using the key in the door. It looks like the console switch may need replacing.
Projects still to go are a transmission fault that may be a sensor, have to get a Merc trans. repair manual, and a C 1095 abs code, of which I have repaired several.
One code that I am unable to track in JTIS is a U1261( if I remember correctly). When I try to look at U codes it shows B codes.

I have a console switch I got when I bought a wood shifter surround out of a wrecked car. I'm a long way off, but it's free if you want it.

No idea about functionality since I have a coupe, but I can check it with the multimeter tonight.

Drop me a PM if interested.

It took me just over 6 hours to do mine and that included me reversing the fron two hoses and having to redo those.
