Default Run A Front Plate??

My 2001 has never had a front plate installed. no bracket on the car.

I am surprised that the local authorities have not stopped me to complain or write a ticket.

Have you been hassled about a lack of front plate?

What is the cost of that offense?

Two years running without any incident. I think the local authorities respect the Jag

going on 4 years, never a ticket for the lack of a front plate here in TX. I've been pulled over several times, but it was never mentioned. Agree with K above, cops know the damage a front bracket can do to a car w/o an easy ability to add one (like ours), perhaps they do respect the car's style?

You're lucky: here in Europe front plates are definitely compulsory. It's a shame, because the XK's pointy nose really doesn't lend itself to having a big flat plate stuck on it.

Default 11 years for me

I've never had one on my Corvette or the Jaguar. I've been stopped out of state a couple of times, I just say that I think my home state doesn't require a front plate. It's never been a problem.

I was stopped with my Toyota FJ and I told them I am waiting for the front plate holder to arrive from Japan as it is a special order. The plate is in the back and hopefully this explanation will work a few more times.

4 years w/o one......keeping my fingers crossed. Plate would definitely not look good on the front.

Don't know about Oregon, but cross the river and it is against the law. I know some guys that don't run front plates in Washington, but my son-in-law got a ticket for it while parked in downtown Seattle. Cost him $65. My guess is the city council has the meter-maids doing a little revenue enhancement for them.

Cheers.

I keep my plate in the trunk with screws and screwdriver. Ca. law requires it be on the car. I put it on whenever I venture into San Fran where they are heavy on enforcement for revenues sake. It attaches to the grille with no holes drilled into the car, no signs of it when removed.

I think I would keep a roll of that 100 mph tape and the front plate in the trunk and if in San Francisco just slap it on with the tape. Remove it on the way out of town!

I ran my Corvette for 13 years with no front plate. Back in the days before Kalifornia totally went down the toilet, you would get tickets for things such as no front plate or window tinting ONLY if you were stopped for some other reason. That all changed here over the last couple of years as I was chased down in the Corvette by a motorcycle cop SOLELY because I had no front plate. It is not that much of a fine to take care of this but the time it took dealing with the usual civil service slugs wasted several hours.

When I got the Jaguar the previous owner did not install a front plate and I left it like that for a few months. But it made me nervous every time I would spy a cop car so I gave in a put the plate on. I used the Jaguar license mount that was provided for the mesh grill but installed the plate much lower using zip ties. These are hidden and the end result does not look too bad.

Still, most cars these days look horrible with front plates and I really cannot quite see why some states require these.

It is definitely illegal here in Washington, I hadn't had one on for nearly 20 years, most of which was spent in So. Cal... then after 6 years in Washington, my wife got pulled over by the small town motor cop with nothing better to do then pull someone over for not having a front plate on. I am continually reminded of this event.

Here in MO it is illegal not to have a front plate. But having 3 other states close by that do not they really have to be looking for MO plate on the back and then look back on the front. Been running no plate for 4 years ( 1 year on Jag).

Here is something that I was looking at when I purchased the Jag just in case.

YouTube - SK Performance's Motorized hidden license plate

I thought it was pretty cool.
