Scosche BTFreq Bluetooth FM Transmitter
I have tried a few of these and they all suffered from less than acceptable audio. If you live in a large population area (tend to have many fm stations) it’s hard to get a clear channel - at least it was for me. Mine are now collecting dust.
I live in a small town on Vancouver island. We don't have any large cities nearby although there are a couple of fair sized ones. I might just give it a try - and cross my fingers.
I have one but the audio quality wasn't good enough for it to be usable and I live in the countryside in the UK. Sometimes it would sound OK and then othertimes it would be terrible, I tried all of the channels and they ranged from bad to terrible.
Alternative thought - go wired/invisible setup.
I am just in the process of upgrading to an android head unit and aftermarket amp; consequently I have a PIE audio ai-net adapter and a bluetooth module that can sit in-line between the amp and satnav and will inject a line-in signal when you play anything through the bluetooth. Would be happy to sell at cost.
Alternatively, buy new! Sometimes the manufacturing on these is iffy though, whereas I know mine works on a premium audio setup.

I combined with:
which is a 12v bluetooth module that also has a mic input and ran the microphone wire to the OEM microphone spot in the center roof console
I then powered the bluetooth using a fuse tap from the ACC fuse in the trunk right by the amp, all you have to do to light that up is add a standard relay to the trunk ACC relay slot, also in the trunk fuse box.
This will give you wired-in bluetooth that turns on with the ACC power, connects to your phone, and only kicks in when there is audio signal sent from the bluetooth device (i.e., your phone). Add a good phone mount over the satnav spot on the dash, and now I have google assistant, voice commands etc etc, and keep everything else stock - cd changer, satnav, radio etc etc.
This will give you MUCH cleaner signal than an fm transmitter, but obvs more hassle. about 30 bucks in total.
You can also get cassette adapters that will pair through bluetooth and probably give a better signal.
Only reason I am changing it is I want to completely upgrade the speakers with 4 ohm ones and that is best achieved with a full rip/replace.

Thanks for the offer but, given the level of my technical knowledge and ability, I'm looking for a 'plug and play' solution. I've managed without it for the 6 years I've had the car so it's not something I need to have. Thanks though....
Many here are using the discount car stereo Bluetooth add on . Works perfectly and has perfect audio quality. Takes about an hour to install and the instructions are easy to follow.

Technically, these are both plug and play solutions... its just you need to unscrew some stuff to get to the plugs lol. But each to their own level of comfort. These cars are a pain in the bum to retro-fit modern audio to.

Yep, but back in the day cars were having their aftermarket radios stolen left and right...no such problem with the well integrated ( and poor sounding) x100's radios.

UPDATE: In my previous post I mentioned Bluetooth fm transmitters I’d tried and the one I eventually bought was the Anker ROAV T2. It wasn’t all that great as I still got some static. After seeing this post I researched again to see if there are now better devices. I just bought the Nulaxy KM30 and I am quite impressed. This device is much better than my previous device and it has been excellent. Very minimal static on occasion depending on where I travel. Here in the San Francisco Bay Area it can be a challenge to find an unused frequency (current using 90.2 in Monterey/Caramel travel). Check out the reviews on Google. I’m am pleased and have decided to forgo the more labor intensive tasks of changing head unit, Bluetooth adaptor, etc.
Thanks for this. I haven't done anything yet, the replies to my post made me reconsider buying the Scosche. I've just had a quick look at the Nulaxy KM30 and I think I'll get one. Apart from anything else it's half the price of the Scosche so I won't feel so bad if it doesn't perform well.
