After just re-removing and re-plastic welding and re-installing my driver's side SCM, I just wanted to share a hypothesis that what causes these to fail is flex in the metal mounting bracket. This is thin metal, and I noticed when I pulled mine back off (the right side stud had pulled out), I noticed the metal was bowed. The plastic lid is definitely not strong enough to resist breaking if it gets flexed by this metal piece, especially if it's got some age on it. When I re-installed, I was careful to make sure I only minimally tightened the bracket retaining nuts--the ones that go on the studs protruding down from the seat. And I went over and backed off the ones on the passenger side just for good measure. I used thread locker on one of the driver's side nuts, and if I have any issues with any others working their way off, I'll use it on them too.
