Default Serpentine Belt back on question

Just replaced my alternator and need to put the serpentine belt back on. I will likely be doing this by myself and it was not real easy to get off. I am curious which pulley you used to place the belt back on.

David, not sure exactly what you mean. Are you asking for best starting point, diagram of belt routing, or how to find /implement the way/ the bolt to remove tension?

Let us know, John

I have the layout down and will have a serpentine belt tool. My question is what is the easiest pulley to slip the belt over with one hand while maintaining pressure with the other. It was fairly hard to get it off. My guess is from the passenger side to use my right hand on the tool to release the tension try to slip the belt over the alternator pulley. I think that would be my best shot.

Sounds good. I remember I had to slip a 2 or 3 foot long pipe over my wrench to get the leverage to release the tension. Hey David you know how to put the hood in service position right?

Thinking about it, why not thread the alternator and slip the belt over the tension pulley as the final move?

Default Safety first - use shoulder on the wrench

Best and safest way, I find, is to use your shoulder on an extension on a wrench on the sprung tensioner pulley. That frees both hands for the tricky belt section underneath.

1. Place the belt around the alternator, idler and water pump, crank and loose under RHS P/S pump & A.C. pullies..
2. Should still be enough play to put the belt on the wrench before slotting wrench drive into the tensioner pulley.

3. Look towards the car from front go to on RHS put an extension onto the wrench and lean onto the extension with your RH shoulder.

4. That frees up both hands to slip belt onto tensioner pulley

I put the waterpump on last but that is my preference.

+1 on water pump pulley. That is what I just did recently and it was not difficult.
