The smile said it all
I pulled into Lowes yesterday morning to get stuff to finish an outdoor project ahead of the noonish rains and under the contractor's awning, typically occupied by p/u trucks, was a blue 97-98 XK8 convertible, top down in 52 degree cloudy windy weather.
As I got closer I noticed the car was pretty rough, a bit of rust over two wheel arches, seriously in need of a good wash, especially the wheels which were covered in brake dust.
I headed in, got my lumber and as I was finished loading I saw a mid 40's gent and woman jump in the car, fire it up and take off. It sounded cross between a fouled two stroke motor or an old Chevy small block with timing way off.
I ended up getting next to them at a stop light, they were just sitting there with big fat grins on their faces which got bigger as they pulled away. The interior didn't look any better than the exterior but it was free of clutter. My old p/up driver window doesn't go down otherwise I would have said something.
Hopefully the guy can turn a wrench and doesn't get eaten alive by the car or scrap it. Lucky to have a wife who seemed to share in his apparent joy in driving the car as well. They seemed really happy to be driving that car
They turned into a residential area not too far from me and the center has a grocery store as well as drug store so I'm sure I'll see the car again. Be interesting to see how it goes.
