Default Something stinks.

So my son took the jag out the other day and put the top up. It's always garaged an only driven on sunny days. Not my daily driver. I never put the top up. I've owned the car for about 3 months.
There is a musty smell inside the car with the top up. What could've caused it?How do I get rid of it and stop it from happening again?

AirCon needs a clean?

Often called AC 'conditioner' or 'bomb', these are an aerosol you set off inside the vehicle with the top up, doors and windows closed and the AC on recirculate. Kills off the mould and odours from the system.

I use one of these annually.

Loxmth, sounds like the top up/down is the independant variable. How does the headliner smell? The only time I had anything like a musty smell was the day I left the passenger window open about 1/2 inch (at the most) - then don't you know it the clouds opened up. Ah, I thought to myself, how much rain can fit in that little opening (by the way: It is a really really wrong thing to think!!) - the front passenger carpet was soaked. Got it up with a shop vac. So, idea #2 is nose to the carpet, #3 how about the seats (my little escapade shows that yes, the foam will absorb water through the leather). Hope the ideas help. John

Hmm, if that's so, wouldn't sun (UV) exposure fix the problem? Anything I can think of that smells musty grows in shaded areas.

You might try a thorough interior clean and see from there?

Personally I'd do it anyway along with an AC bomb ( as per GGG )....they're not expensive and do make a difference.

Good luck and hope to hear...
