Source for A/C Compressor
Anyone know of a non-dealer, online source for the early model a/c compressor, jag part MCA7300AE, Denso part 60-1487? I say non-dealer, as the list price at $1200, discount $1050, seems a little lofty for a standard Ford-spec Denso compressor. Probably looking for the OEM Denso product, however, as the remanufactured ones have a very bad reputation here and the after-market ones have poor quality control - hit and miss finding a good one. If you use the top manifold plate from the old compressor, the 60-1487 model is apparently a universal fit for a number of Ford family models. Perhaps available at a lower price under the Lincoln part number, et al? Any info much appreciated. Getting hot in here.
Try this link they are cheap & great service.

Bought what appeared to be a brand new Denso compressor from the local buyautoparts.com warehouse. Sold in a sealed Denso box with all instructions, warranties, etc. After installation, pulley bearing proved to be bad - either improperly packed to begin with (most likely) or dried out because of bad seal, whatever. Wouldn't be so bad, except this unit replaces an aftermarket one installed several months ago that developed the exact same bearing problem. Rather than take a chance on another one, mechanic installed a rebuilt pulley/clutch unit he had in stock. One more adventure in the wild world of aftermarket auto parts. As always, buyer beware.
Did you add oil?

Gus,
Mechanic tried both silicone and petroleum sprays. Bearing appears fully sealed and would not want to pierce it(?). How would you go about lubricating?

Work done by certified jag mechanic, 10 years experience - oil at proper level upon recharge. Noise occurs with compressor off and pulley running at idle. Didn't want to take a chance on another faulty unit, as labor, at $300 per change-out, is beginning to hurt. I suspect a distributer may have off-loaded a suspect lot of compressors, and I wanted to be done with the issue.
No I get it and I am asking questions to better understand the situation. Often we do not get all information necessary.
I would be calling the supplier for the A/C unit and tell them the situation that compressor with the clutch disengaged should not make noise.
