Sources for interior switches?
The last video on the tribute to the British Motoring Industry was enlightening.
The comment at 5:39, "Bit of a problem with Morgan, they didn't know what London was." was priceless. Expect letters from the moggies fans.

After installing the new mode switch to the shift plate, it plunged down into the console when I tried to use it the next day. Upon removing and more closely inspecting the new switch, I noticed that there were no mounting tabs on part of the housing, which is why it slipped down into the mounting hole when I tried to operate it.
In the picture, the switch on the left is the original, and the one on the right is the new replacement. They are identical in every way but for the new one lacking forward mounting tabs. Perhaps this is a factory defect?
Since the new switch works as it should otherwise, I've resolved to use a mild glue to hold it in place versus trying to exchange this part for another. They are both made in England; no Chinese copies from what I can tell. I will not make any more jokes about British electrical components or quality control - although I'm tempted to.

Maybe you received a part that was previously returned ans put into stock without close examination. But then, you didn't buy from Home Depot either.
It does look like something should fit in that hole.
I feel your frustration, can only offer my wish of good luck.

It is weird; the part fits the hole but there's no tab to hold it in place. Even in a different application I'm not sure how the switch housing would stay mounted. It works but for $140 it shouldn't require a dab of Shoe Goo to make it stick. Oh well...
Not sure, but I am thinking perhaps the mouting scheme of the part changed when they went to the metal bezel in 04.
I've revived this dead thread since that new sport mode switch just went south on me. Mechanically it is crap - completely worthless just like the one I replaced from when I bought the car. I managed to get it to stay in the normal (not sport) position, so will drive that way until a replacement part arrives since there is no reliable way to fix the cheap plastic or whatever it is that's not working inside.
I'm going to do my best not to revive the British electrical jokes, but really - this is a damn switch, guys - how hard can it be? Another $140 down the drain in less than a year, for a part that didn't even fit right the first time - unacceptable. And I know this kind of thing is not exclusive to British cars, just ask anyone who owns a Ferrari. Seems the more expensive the car, the worse the interior switches get.
Maybe by now the Indians are making the new switches.
