Default Speedometer Bulbs

Information help needed.
One of the 2 speedometer bulbs on my 2005 X100 XKRS has blown. I have found a web video of how to remove the instrument panel and change the bulbs, but it does not state the actual size, wattage or bulb nomenclature which defines the bulb. I know it is a wedge based bulb but have found some web articles that say it should be a 5w bulb and some that say it should only be a 3w bulb. Of the 2 physical sizes in the instrument panel I know it is the larger one, but cannot find the size of either. After a couple of hours of web browsing I still cannot find any useful details to enable me to buy the bulbs (I intend to replace all 4 bulbs to ensure even brightness).
I can buy bulbs complete with their bulb holders but only need the bulbs so don't really want to buy the complete items.
Any information anyone can give will be gratefully appreciated.
Thanks

If you haven't yet removed the IP and checked, don't assume the bulb holders are OK. All four of these on my 2005 XK8 were charred like this:

Earlier this year I replaced several of the dashboard bulbs in my wife's 2006 XK8. I watched the same how-to videos here on the forum that you probably did. The replacement bulbs I purchased were the larger size Wagner 194 bulbs. There are also some smaller bulbs that may need replacing as well. The ones I purchased but have not used as of yet were the smaller size Wagner 37 bulbs....

Thank you Graham. I have removed the bulbs and found the holders very slightly discoloured, so have decided to buy the bulbs complete with holders to be on the safe side.

I thought the £4 each was worth the outlay given the work involved to remove/refit the IP and the potential for damage to the circuit board with re-using charred bulb holders.

Lightbulb Pretty Light Bulbs!

Jagman 46, Graham & Jon 89,

When I installed my "RealGauge" and had all that stuff apart, I did as "Pretty Blue Fin" had done last year and installed Sylvania 2825 Cool White LED Bulbs in the top 4 sockets and Sylvania LongLife #37's in the bottom......They are Bright and Beautiful.....and the LED's don't get HOT and will out last the Car.....Also, they are really pretty....No more burned sockets!!!

Interesting to hear they are reliable.

We did have some reports of Instrument Pack issues after fitting LED's so the bulbs must have improved since the early days.

I have a couple of burnt out bulbs and plan to replace them over the winter so it's good to hear about the leds ....I have a question though. Are you still able to adjust the brightness when the LED bulbs are fitted ? When I leave the city at night I often lower the brightness of the dash lighting to minimum.

bcprice36 , I'd like to know the same thing. Surely you still have the dimmer function with the new LED bulbs, wouldn't be much use otherwise.

Can you confirm?
