Steering column cover removal
Good day to my fellow Jaguar Brethren. Well after surmounting frozen gear lever ,now back to an issue I hoped had disappeared forever, Shortly after I purchased my gorgeous 97 XK8 6 mos ago the motor failed to power off. Only happened once. . It has recently returned albeit intermittent. Pretty certain its the ignition switch. Removed two lower screws from column cover. Feeling out extraction of upper/lower cover to get to switch. I believe there are internal clips and it feels fairly tight. Obviously don't want to force or damage the cover.Would any of you Gents out there be familiar with the process. Once open I think its fairly easy to replace the switch. Thanks as prior for any guidance on gently separating the upper and lower covers.

There are 5 Posidrive screws TOTAL for column cowl halves.
The two lower are under the lower cover and the lower comes off. The cover is 'clipped' to the upper with plastic extensions but it will 'unsnap' with a plastic or metal wedge tool.
You can also just PULL DOWN and it will release.
The upper cowl has three Posidrive screws to hold it on.
Just move the column REACH fully out and tilt down to get clearance.

MCM -- dont know if you saw my prior quick reply..(disappeared from screen), Lower cover now sprung but having trouble locating screws for upper cover. Cant be far,,,somewhere on underside I would think. I did extend column. Would you be able to offer a bit more insight as to where in that ltd area they may be hiding? Probably a "da" on my part, Happens often, Thanks very much again
Just lie on your back and they are removed from under the upper cowl half.
The AUDIBLE WARNING SPEAKER hides one of the screws. The screw will likely get caught by the speaker magnet.
Just move wires and connectors until you see them.

Okie Doke MCM --- I'll give it a go -- though it appears like clear access, I just didn't know if that's typical protocol but thx again. Awaiting (used) part as the only new one I could locate was $500, , a bit over the top in my mind but... I just wanted to get it cracked open for now and ready for install..
PS---are there any models you've missed....lol .. pretty amazing array of past/current artillery. I was 12 when I saw the XKE in 66 ... Love at first site. Never got my hands on one..a far too practical life ... I suppose the XK8 pales in comparison but I'm still thrilled to have gotten a hold of it.
Again thanks so very much for the guidance and keep motoring in good health!
